In October 1934, the Red Sixth Army fought fiercely with the warlords of Hunan and Guizhou in Shiqian County, Guizhou. Under heavy siege by warlords, the Red Army was forced to make a strategic shift in order to preserve its strength.
In order to protect the retreat of the large forces of the Red Army, the 18th Regiment of the 52nd Division of the Red Army undertook the task of covering, attracting the enemy to the area around the Sleepy Niu Mountain and engaging in a fierce battle with the enemy.
During the battle, the remaining hundreds of fighters of the Red 18th Division insisted on fighting the enemy forces. However, due to the outnumbered enemy, the Red 18th Division decided to break through immediately. As a result, the division commander led more than 200 fighters to begin a breakthrough, leaving the commander of the 52nd Regiment to lead the remaining fighters, responsible for attracting enemy troops and covering the retreat of large forces.
Before leaving, the division commander specially instructed the commander of the 52nd Regiment to try to break through as soon as possible after leading away the enemy, so as to catch up with the large force. Therefore, the commander of the 52nd regiment, Tian Haiqing, decided to direct the enemy's fire to the top of the hill and then try to break through.
However, puzzling is that the team responsible for the break has since mysteriously disappeared and has not been heard from since. The soldiers who broke through with the division commander always remembered this team and missed those comrades-in-arms very much.
However, no matter how much they searched, they couldn't find any news of this team. The leaders of the Red Sixth Army were also worried about the safety of this team, but due to the constraints of the conditions at that time and the urgency of the war, they could not find it.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the party organization sent people to Guizhou to look for information, but due to the backward communication conditions at that time, no clues could be found. According to the situation at the time, the fighters of this army may have been more than lucky, but there is not enough information to confirm this suspicion, so it is impossible to draw conclusions.
So, were they sacrificed, or were they captured? Either way, there should have been some traces, but unfortunately, they disappeared as if out of thin air, without any news.
Chiang Kai-shek was very dissatisfied with the development of the Red Revolution, and he mobilized large forces and united with the local warlords in an attempt to completely eliminate the Red Army soldiers. After about a year of fighting, the Red Army suffered heavy losses, many base areas were occupied by Chiang Kai-shek's troops, and the revolution reached a critical juncture.
In order to retain the revolutionary forces, it was decided to carry out a strategic shift and the Long March began in October 1934. In fact, as early as July, ** had long anticipated the situation, and sent soldiers of the 6th Regiment of the 18th Division of the Red Army Corps to explore the way for the Red Army to start the Long March.
At a critical moment of life and death, the Red Sixth Army led by ** faced a serious threat. They have pursuers behind them, there is a siege in front, and the disparity in strength between the enemy and us is huge, and they are in a very dangerous situation.
However, the Red Sixth Army did not deter from this, they still forged ahead, overcame all kinds of difficulties, and embarked on the journey. According to the order of **, they came to the Guizhou region, and at this time, they received an order from **, asking them to immediately turn to the mouth of the river and not to advance to the west.
Originally, the Red Sixth Army planned to advance westward, throw off the enemy forces behind, and then rest briefly. However, **'s intelligence shows that the Gui warlords can go south, which means that our army can also rest for a short time.
However, if the intelligence is wrong, our army may be surrounded and put in a worrying situation. Faced with this dilemma, the leaders of the Red Sixth Army launched a heated discussion.
Eventually, they decided to follow **'s orders, abandon their westward advance, and turn north. However, reality did not go as they had hoped. The enemy army has long received information about our army and has studied the actions of our Red Sixth Army Corps.
They decided to gather the forces of the three parties, gather heavy troops in Shiqian County, ambush the Red Sixth Army, hinder their convergence with other corps, and completely annihilate them. In order to implement this plan, they implemented a policy in advance in the Guizhou region, moved all the masses and food, cut off the logistics supply of the Red Army, and set up a heavy ambush to wait for the arrival of the Red Sixth Army.
Not only that, but they also spread the image of the Red Army as bandits among the common people and smeared the Red Army. This made the situation of the Red Sixth Army even more difficult. However, the Red Sixth Army Corps was not deterred by these difficulties, and they still firmly advanced towards their goal, proving with their actions the determination and courage of the Red Army.
FigUnfortunately, the leaders of the Red Sixth Army had not expected this to happen, so when Xiao Ke led his troops to Shiqian County, before the soldiers could react, they were surrounded by enemy troops and hurriedly launched a fierce battle to fight back.
However, because the enemy army came prepared, and because of the huge disparity in the strength of the enemy and us, our army was in a worrying situation. The leaders of the Red Sixth Army knew very well that only by organizing a large force to break through could they gain a glimmer of life.
Therefore, after several people discussed, it was decided to command a large force to break through, and the 52nd Regiment temporarily left to cover the breakthrough of the troops. Speaking of the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment, they also have amazing achievements.
Since the Long March, the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment have been walking in front of the troops, clearing obstacles for the large army. After fighting all the way, the soldiers of the regiment bravely moved forward, and they have always been a sharp knife in the legion, and they have the courage to assume the duty of desperate guards.
For them, no matter how traumatized they are, even if only the last fighter remains, they must successfully complete the mission. It is precisely because the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment are invincible and often undertake the task of attacking fortifications, so the chief still handed over this important task to the hands of the 52nd Regiment this time.
You must know that whether the large army can successfully break through depends largely on whether the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment can successfully complete the task. And Long Yun, the commander of the 52nd Division who commanded the 18th Regiment, was also a brave and combative figure, who participated in many important activities of the party organization and rose all the way to become a division commander.
When he received the order, he knew the importance of this task and did not dare to slack off. Within a few days, he led hundreds of soldiers to start building fortifications in Zhujiaba to resist enemy fire and cover the breakthrough of the large army.
As soon as the battle began, the soldiers of the Red 52nd Regiment rushed to the front, desperately resisting the enemy and pinning down most of the enemy forces. After a fierce battle, the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment successfully attracted enemy firepower, gave the Red Sixth Army a chance to break through, and took the opportunity to retreat one after another.
The fighters of the Red 52nd Regiment have always insisted on fighting, resisting most of the enemy's firepower. When the enemy saw that this force was so fierce, they also thought that the Red 52nd Regiment was the main force of the Red Army, and they were overjoyed and immediately launched an even more fierce attack.
Taking advantage of the fact that the Red 52nd Regiment was attracting enemy firepower, the large forces of the Red Sixth Army also broke through the encirclement of the enemy one after another. Waiting for the large forces of the Red Army to successfully break through, Xiao Ke ordered someone to inform the 52nd Regiment that it could break away from the battle and move closer to the main force.
After almost a day of fierce fighting, the 52nd Regiment managed to break free from the enemy siege and prepared to catch up with the large forces.
They pursued the Red Army in close pursuit, but the enemy forces behind them, who were desperately pursued, attacked again, and fierce fighting resumed. However, this unit was weak, and the heroic fighting of the fighters of the 52nd Regiment successfully repelled the enemy troops, allowing them to once again embark on the pursuit of the troops.
Seeing that it is about to catch up with the large army, it is not a one-way street. Due to the time difference, one of the junctions heading south was occupied by the Kuomintang troops, blocking their advance. Looking at the well-planned Kuomintang army, the commander of the 52nd Regiment was very anxious and faced many difficulties.
They were faced with two options: one was to confront the enemy forces behind them, and at the same time pursue the large forces of the Red Army and try to destroy the enemy forces on the road; Second, for the safety of large forces, they alone led the enemy troops in another direction, attracted the attention of the enemy troops, and allowed the main forces of the Red Army to reach their destination safely.
The soldiers of the Red Army always had a big picture, the courage to sacrifice and dedication, so they chose the second option. They immediately changed direction and marched towards Sleepy Niu Mountain, preparing to cross Laojun Mountain, throw off the enemy forces behind, and then pursue the main forces of the Red Army.
Sleepy Niu Mountain, two narrow mountain ranges surrounded by high mountains, with a river valley at the bottom, surrounded by steep cliffs. The mountain was named Trapped Niu Mountain because once the exit was blocked, the people in the mountain would lose their life.
After the soldiers of the Red 52nd Regiment entered the Sleepy Niu Mountain, they did not know that this was a dead end. The enemy was in hot pursuit, and as they slowly pursued the Reds, they shouted loudly for the Reds to surrender, hoping to capture a few prisoners in order to get news of the Red Army's large forces.
The local masses were deceived by the Kuomintang troops, believing that the Red Army soldiers were bandits who did all kinds of evil, and also joined the ranks of the attacking Red Army. The division commander ordered to stop the counterattack, not to harm innocent civilians, and to use bunkers to avoid enemy fire and take advantage of the opportunity to attack.
The enemy forced the masses to stand at the front of the ranks as targets, forcing the masses to attack the Red Army. The surrounding soldiers wept in grief when they saw the sacrifice of the regiment commander. The soldiers understood that if they continued to fight like this, they would inevitably lose their lives, so they asked the division commander to lead some of the soldiers to break through first and save their strength.
Under the ** of the soldiers, the division commander led more than 200 soldiers along the cliff to the river valley and successfully entered Laojun Mountain. The remaining more than 100 fighters stayed behind to contain the enemy's fire and cover the advance of their comrades.
Eventually, they were forced to the edge of the cliff and ran out of bullets.
In the face of the enemy's persecution, the Red Army soldiers repeatedly tolerated and could not bear to use ** against the masses. In desperation, the company commander ordered the bugler to blow the trumpet and shouted the slogan "Comrades jump down".
Without hesitation, the fighters smashed the guns in their hands and jumped off the cliff dozens of meters. The enemy troops, frightened by the sound of the Red Army's charging trumpet, thought that our troops were going to attack, and immediately went into hiding.
However, they did not see the Red Army soldiers, only silence. Unfortunately, the team of division commander Long Yun who broke through also encountered an accident, and the progress was not smooth.
During the breakout, the enemy forces continued to pursue, causing them to travel long distances, lose their physical strength, and the number of fighters was constantly decreasing. In the end, Long Yun was unfortunately captured by the enemy. He was tortured to the point of physical and mental exhaustion, but still insisted on not revealing important information about the Red Army.
However, due to the designation of a traitor, he was forced to confess his identity and was escorted to various places where he was held. In prison, he endured inhuman torture and was physically and mentally exhausted.
As a result of the long and arduous revolutionary struggle, his body was already overwhelmed and he was suffering from illness. However, the enemy still did not let him go, and tried in various ways to make him surrender.
Eventually, Long Yun died due to his deteriorating condition, and no one knew about his heroic deeds. Despite this, these heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country and the people in an unknown corner, and their heroic songs deserve to be remembered forever.
After years of war, the soldiers and leaders of the Red Sixth Regiment were always concerned about the disappearance of the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment. However, the brutality of the war made the task of finding this team extremely difficult.
Because of the lack of communication during the war years, it was not uncommon for troops to be broken up and dispersed into small units, and even to lose their news. Although the party organization has never forgotten these fighters, it is not easy to find their whereabouts.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, there were special personnel who went to Guizhou to find the whereabouts of this unit, and the organization specially sent experts to Guizhou to investigate and carry out large-scale search and visits.
Based on the clues provided by the few surviving fighters, experts learned that Sleepy Niu Mountain may be related to the whereabouts of the fighters of the 52nd Regiment. However, the experts did not get any information from the local village, and even the local people did not know about the existence of Sleepy Niu Mountain.
Despite the difficulties, this did not stop the search for the whereabouts of the fighters of the 52 regiment. In the seventies, ** sent an expedition team to Shiqian County to investigate, but the result was still nothing.
In desperation, the task of finding the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment was shelved and became an unsolved mystery. It wasn't until 2002 that Yang Youzhu accidentally learned that there were clues about the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment in Shiqian County, and he immediately went to investigate.
However, after investigation, he only found a few pieces of information and did not get any useful clues. Despite this, Yang Youzhu did not give up, and he continued to search through all the information in Shiqian County, but still found nothing.
This mystery case has been searched for many years, but the whereabouts of the soldiers of the 52nd Regiment have not been found. It is a story of heroic battle and parting from life and death, but also a story of searching and remembering.
Despite the fact that a long time has passed, people's thoughts and searches for the fighters of the 52 regiment have not stopped.
He was bent on finding out the news of Sleepy Niu Mountain, so he began to look for the old man in Shiqian County. Eventually, he learned from an old man that Sleepy Niu Mountain might be in Longtang Town. Hearing the news, he was overjoyed and immediately rushed to Longtang Town.
He decided to stay here and look for it for a long time. In two years, he visited almost every village in the town and visited every villager. Once, he discovered a unique custom in a place called Ganxi Trough Village.
The village is so remote that almost no one knows about it. The villagers all live on farming and hunting, and do not need food from the outside world. However, the villagers have a strange tradition that on the day of Chung Yeung Festival, they will burn incense and paper to a mountain and make sincere sacrifices.
They have maintained this custom for decades. Yang Youzhu was very interested in traditional Chinese customs, so he decided to investigate this custom. Upon inquiry, he learned that the villagers were sacrificing the Red Army.
This gave him hope, and he took the cadres to the village and visited the villagers everywhere. After some inquiry, he finally learned that the villagers were sacrificing the Red Army soldiers of the 52nd Regiment that year.
He also made a major discovery: some of the warriors who jumped off the cliff survived. Among them, Chen Shirong was the soldier who blew the horn of the charge back then. He was lucky enough to hang on a vine after jumping off a cliff and survived.
Later, he and the two fighters got separated. He was adopted by a kind landowner, changed his name, and settled in the village of Trough. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he became the village party secretary with his high ideological consciousness and joined the party organization, contributing to the party in another way.
Under his initiative, the village held an event every year on the Chung Yeung Festival to pay tribute to the sacrificed Red Army soldiers. Whenever the day of worship comes, the villagers will bring wine and food to worship the martyrs.
When the masses learned of the heroic deeds of the Red Army soldiers of the 52nd Regiment, they were deeply moved by their spirit of sacrificing their lives and forgetting their lives and serving the people wholeheartedly. Yang Youzhu then collected a large amount of information, handed it over to the party organization, and made the deeds of the 52nd Regiment of the Red Army public.
At this point, the truth of the sacrifice of this army was revealed to the world, causing a sensation. At the critical moment of life and death, these Red Army soldiers chose not to hesitate to jump off the cliff instead of shooting at the crowd.
They proved their loyalty to the people with their lives. Many years later, the cemetery and monument of the martyrs of Sleepy Niu Mountain were established here to commemorate those Red Army soldiers who were dedicated to serving the people.
