Dark Souls 2 has always seemed to be a weakness for the Dark Souls series, as the game was not led by Hidetaka Miyazaki, which led to many creative decisions that were out of step with the essence of Dark Souls.

And in an interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked about the relationship between Dark Souls 2 and Elden Ring, with which the latter shares an open-ended design approach. As it turns out, Hidetaka Miyazaki believes that Dark Souls 2 influenced many subsequent FromSoft projects.

Personally, I think Dark Souls 2 is actually a very good project for us," Miyazaki said, "I don't think we would have many connections and ideas for subsequent series without it." I think that's beyond doubt. Even critics of Dark Souls 2 have to admit that in the layout of games like Wolf: Shadow Lost Twice and Elden Ring, you can trace a lot of Dark Souls 2 genes. As a staunch defender of Dark Souls 2, I think Wolf: Shadow Passes Twice is probably one of my favorite FromSoft games. ”

Hidetaka Miyazaki also believes that working with a director who is not his own is a successful attempt. Although the producers of Dark Souls 2, Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, have received some criticism for their approach to the game, Miyazaki believes that handing over the games of the Souls series to someone else means that "we were able to get different motivations and different ideas ......."We probably wouldn't have had it", and said that "in the future, we may entrust the producers of other games similar to the Souls series to someone else".
