Article 20 is a realistic legal comedy film jointly produced by the Film and Television Center of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and Guangguang Pictures and other film and television production units, directed by Zhang Yimou, and the cast includes Lei Jiayin, Ma Li, Zhao Liying, Gao Ye, Liu Yaowen, Wang Xiao, Chen Minghao and Pan Binlong.
The title of the film is based on the provisions of Article 20 of the Criminal Code, which mainly focuses on the legal provision of legitimate defense. In 1979, China's Criminal Law clearly stipulated the relevant provisions on justifiable defense, and when the Criminal Law was revised in 1997, the relevant provisions on justifiable defense were also adjusted to further clarify the definition of excessive defense. However, due to the limitations of thinking patterns and judicial habits, the justifiable defense mechanism in criminal law has not been widely used for a period of time. Since 2018, under the direct guidance and supervision of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the procuratorial organs have cooperated with the public security organs and others to handle a series of justified defense cases, including the "Kunshan Anti-Homicide Case", "Fuzhou Zhao Yu Case", "Laiyuan Anti-Homicide Case", "Xingtai Dong Mingang Case" and "Lijiang Tang Xue Case", ensuring that the justifiable defense clauses are no longer "sleeping".
