Interestingly, this time, it is not Russia that is being blackmailed, but Europe itself. In the midst of this dramatic shift, Europe's worst enemy has crept to the surface, and it may be hidden in the presence of those perceived as allies.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been deadlocked for a long time, and the US Congress has not let go of its approval of the Ukraine Aid Funding Bill. However, at this critical juncture, the EU broke the deadlock in an unexpected manner. The convening of the special summit not only put the aid plan for Ukraine on the agenda again, but also finally reached an agreement on the huge amount of financial assistance after some twists and turns. This hard-won aid is undoubtedly a timely rain for Ukraine, but it may be an unpredictable storm for the EU itself.
This move by the EU will inevitably make people suspicious. The United States, the driving force behind the Ukraine crisis, is now showing signs of fatigue and seems intent on withdrawing from this smoke-filled battlefield.
