In the early morning of February 22, a container ship "Lianghui 688" bound for Nansha, Guangzhou, Nanhai, Foshan, unfortunately touched the pier of the Lixinsha Bridge while sailing through the Hongqi Lishui Road, causing the bridge deck to break. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it is initially understood that negligence in the lookout may be the main cause of the accident.

It is understood that the "Lianghui 688" ship was fined 30,000 yuan by the Transportation Bureau of Shunde District, Foshan City not long ago, that is, on January 8, 2024, because the ship did not strengthen its lookout when entering and leaving the port, anchorage or passing through the waters of the bridge area. However, this punishment does not seem to have attracted enough attention from the ship's owners and crew.

According to the ship-carrying app, the "Lianghui 688" departed from Jingzhou, Hubei Province on February 17 and went south along the inland waterway. In the early morning of February 22, the ship entered the Hongqi Lishui Channel and finally stopped at the Lixinsha Bridge. Witnesses said that the vessel did not appear to slow down or take any evasive measures at that time, and directly hit the piers of the bridge.

The accident not only caused the bridge deck to break, but also had a serious impact on local traffic. After the accident, the captain of the vessel involved was brought into custody and the owner of the vessel cooperated with the relevant matters at the scene.

This accident reminds us once again that safety is no small matter and that we must not let our guard down at any time. For ships, strengthening lookout and abiding by traffic rules are the basic requirements to ensure the safety of navigation. It is hoped that this accident will attract more people's attention and jointly create a safe and orderly shipping environment.
