A seat dispute sparked a waterloo on the plane, and passengers teamed up to sue the airline.
Recently, an aircraft dispute incident caused by a seat problem has become the focus of society, which occurred on China Eastern Airlines flight MU6797 from Beijing to Chengdu. A man asked for three passengers while only buying two business class tickets, sparking a clash with the crew and ultimately causing the flight to be cancelled nearly two hours later. More than 300 passengers were able to change their bookings without any compensation.
In response to this incident, the police report issued by the Capital Airport Public Security Bureau showed that the incident occurred on an outbound flight at Daxing Airport. The behavior of the passengers involved Dong (male, 58 years old) and Zhao (female, 61 years old) violated the provisions of the "Public Security Administration Punishment Law of the People's Republic of China", constituting an illegal act of disrupting order on public transportation.
However, passengers were unhappy because the airline only cited "weather reasons" as the reason for canceling the flight. A passenger, Ms. Li, who works in a law-related profession, initiated an action against the airline. She launched an indictment in the group, which was supported by seven or eight passengers. These passengers were unhappy with the additional costs caused by the flight cancellation and questioned the airline's failure to provide a reasonable explanation.
Ms. Li said that although some passengers may not be able to participate in the prosecution because they have something to do or lack relevant legal knowledge, they believe that someone has to do it. She would like other passengers on the same flight to provide more evidence that the cancellation was not due to weather alone. At present, they are determining the number of people to be prosecuted, and will jointly lead the litigation method, considering whether to send representatives to participate or hire professional lawyers.
As for whether there is a direct relationship between airlines, CCTV commented that airlines should convey true information to the public in a responsible manner and safeguard the rights and interests of passengers. Airlines should not justify the loss caused by flight cancellation to passengers by "weather reasons", but should respond openly and transparently to passengers' reasonable queries.
