The Three Gorges Ship Lock and Gezhouba Ship Lock have been operating safely, stably and efficiently for many years, the lock equipment and facilities are in full load operation, and the overhaul of the lock is a powerful measure to focus on solving the problems of equipment aging, defect treatment, performance recovery, etc., the last comprehensive "physical examination" of the Three Gorges North Line Lock and Gezhouba No. 1 Ship Lock was in 2021 and 2018 respectively.
During the overhaul of the two dam locks, the Three Gorges South Line Lock and the Gezhouba No. 2 Lock implemented single-line (directional) operation with regular reversing; The No. 2 lock of Gezhouba is operated with the lock of the southern line of the Three Gorges, and the No. 3 lock of Gezhouba is operated with the ship lift of the Three Gorges, taking into account the ships that have passed the first dam. Key ships such as key urgent material ships, grain transport ships, container ships, demonstration ships, and honest ships shall be dispatched in accordance with the "Notice of the Changhang Bureau on the Classification Arrangements for Ship Crossing Dispatch during the Maintenance Period of the Three Gorges and Gezhouba Locks in 2024".
During the overhaul of the locks, the Three Gorges Bureau will, in accordance with the overall requirements of "source management, total volume control, remote dispatching, orderly release, information disclosure, and supervision in accordance with the law", work with the maritime safety administration agencies and waterway management departments along the Yangtze River to effectively control the total number of ships waiting for the lock in the waters near the dam of the Three Gorges Hub River section, reasonably arrange the orderly anchoring of ships crossing the dam along the way, and focus on the reversing operation of the locks, emergency anchoring scheduling and other work; At the same time, strengthen communication and coordination with the reservoir dispatching department, and use the dynamic draft control standards of the Gezhouba Sanjiang Pilotage Channel to maximize the use of the Sanjiang Pilotage and Gezhouba.
