The Spring Festival is approaching, do front-line teachers still need to be on duty at school?
According to the Beijing News, on February 7, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission issued a notice clearly stating that during the winter vacation, teachers are encouraged to use the holidays to adjust their rest, and front-line teachers will not be arranged to be on duty, and the on-duty duty will be mainly led by leading cadres and administrative personnel to reduce the burden on front-line teachers.
It's no exaggeration to say that there's nothing better than this announcement for frontline teachers. During this Spring Festival holiday, front-line teachers in Beijing finally no longer have to worry about being on duty, and are able to arrange their holiday life freely and spend a reunion with their families.
In this regard, this notice from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission is timely and necessary to fully protect teachers' right to rest during holidays.
Compared with more than a month of winter and summer vacations, teachers are on duty for one or two days, and they do not take up much rest time. But the key to holiday duty is not the length of time, but the value and meaning. At a time when the school is strengthening full-time security and other security forces, and monitoring is fully covered, is it still necessary to let front-line teachers be on duty at school during the holidays? It's no wonder that some teachers complained, "Are you afraid that the teaching building will be stolen when teachers stay at school during the holidays?" ”
Not long ago, many teachers posted on the Internet that they were arranged to be on duty at the school during the Chinese New Year, which was cold and meaningless, questioning the formalism of this move. In this regard, the Beijing News published a comment "Winter vacation duty should not become a new burden for teachers", which resonated, and the cancellation of holiday duty has also become the voice of many front-line teachers.
In this context, on the eve of the Spring Festival, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission made it clear that teachers would not be on duty during the winter vacation, which is undoubtedly of positive practical significance. In particular, the notice also gives alternative arrangements, which can also meet the needs of school holiday safety management. This is not only a manifestation of respect for teachers' professionalism and freeing teachers from non-teaching tasks, but also helps to promote the internal reform of the management system and further clarify the boundaries between administration and teaching.
In reality, in addition to daily teaching, front-line teachers also need to complete various social work "entering the campus" tasks, and finally look forward to the winter and summer vacations, and they are also on duty at the school. This will inevitably increase teachers' sense of burnout to a certain extent, and it will not be conducive to their better performance of teaching responsibilities in the new semester.
In fact, the issue of teacher burden has also been a concern at the national level. In recent years, China has successively promulgated a series of policies, such as "Several Opinions on Reducing the Burden of Primary and Secondary School Teachers and Further Creating a Good Environment for Education and Teaching", "Several Opinions on Further Stimulating the Vitality of Primary and Secondary Schools", and "Notice on Prohibiting the Assignment of Directive Tasks Unrelated to Education and Teaching to Schools", such as "Increasing Fans", "Appraisal" and "Selling", etc., the purpose of which is to curb the transfer of formalism to campuses and increase the burden of non-teaching tasks on teachers.
Therefore, schools cannot fall into the paradox of reducing the burden on teachers while shouting about reducing the burden on teachers and at the same time assigning tasks to them that are not related to teaching. The education department should promptly correct the phenomenon of unreasonable and formalism in the school's independent arrangement, including and not limited to the matter of being on duty during the winter vacation.
It should be emphasized that the teacher's small three-foot podium should not be occupied by other non-teaching work. It is determined by the particularity of the teaching profession and is also the legal right of teachers clearly granted by the Teachers Law of our country.
In this regard, the education department has the responsibility of supervision and guidance, especially on the issue of whether teachers need to be on duty during the holidays, and it is not appropriate to leave it to the schools themselves. In order to prevent schools from arbitrarily increasing the size and blurring the scope of teachers' responsibilities, it is necessary for the education department to standardize them through documents and notices, and clarify the issue of whether teachers are on duty during holidays and who will be on duty.
Schools should also administer education in accordance with the law, resolutely say "no" to all kinds of formalism, and reduce the burden on teachers by optimizing the management system, so as to better respect and protect teachers' right to rest.
At the end of the day, the focus of campus safety is to ensure the safety of students in school, and there is no need for teachers to leave schools alone during the holidays. To further abandon formalism, schools also need to be "pushed" by local education departments. The end of the year is approaching, and it should be clear whether teachers should be on duty at school.
