Comprehensive @Digital Chat Station and other bloggers recently broke the news that the progress of the Xiaomi 15 series has advanced again, and it is expected to go on sale around October. For reference, the current Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro were released on October 26 last year, while they were released on October 31.
And if nothing else, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 should still be the first to be launched by the Xiaomi 15 series, which is expected to be unveiled in September. It's worth mentioning that Apple and Huawei will also release new phones in September, so this September may see Apple, Qualcomm and Kirin compete on the same stage.
It is reported that the Xiaomi 15 series still maintains a straight-curved dual-size strategy, that is, a small straight screen (15) + a regular large-size slightly curved screen (15 pro). The current Xiaomi 14's main shortcomings are in the three aspects of short-throw fingerprint, image specifications and data transmission.
First of all, in terms of fingerprints, the Xiaomi Mi 15 is testing a domestic single-point ultrasonic fingerprint, which unlocks faster and supports wet hand unlocking, and the overall experience is much better than that of short-throw fingerprints. By the way, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra is also expected to be upgraded to a single-point ultrasonic fingerprint.
The second is the image specifications, although the image parameters of the Xiaomi Mi 14 have been significantly upgraded compared to the previous generation 13, and the main camera performance is also very good, but its telephoto end is still a little weak compared with the periscope telephoto of its competitors. So in the imaging section, the Xiaomi Mi 15 may be supplemented with a periscope telephoto.
Then there is the data transfer, although both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro support USB 32 Gen 1, but the transfer speed is not consistent, the former is 5Gbps peak rate, the latter is 10Gbps (USB 3 cable sold separately). The Xiaomi Mi 15 is expected to make up for the data transfer rate that has been slashed.
In addition, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is also testing satellite communication capabilities. In fact, it was also previously revealed that the Xiaomi 14 Pro also evaluated satellite communications, but it was not able to be used due to the high cost. If the 15 Pro is going to be used, I don't know if it means that the price will increase.
As for the processor, the relevant leaks show that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be upgraded to a 3nm process, and will use Qualcomm's new self-developed institution (2*Nuvia Phoenix L core + 6*Nuvia Phoenix M core), and the performance will be improved by about 40% compared with 8 Gen 3.
Overall, if the Xiaomi Mi 15 can make up for all the shortcomings, then I guess it can kill it. However, Xiaomi may also usher in new competitors this year, because it was previously reported that the next generation of medium-cup models from a large manufacturer is also expected to be made into a small-screen flagship. Of course, this is certainly good news for small screen users, after all, there are more choices.
So, do you prefer a large screen or a small screen?
