The Spring Festival is already a third of the way, and seeing that the holiday is coming to an end, I can't help but have a new understanding of this year's Spring Festival. Compared with previous years, this year's Spring Festival presents some obvious differences, especially the emergence of six striking "abnormal" phenomena, which reflect some profound changes in today's society.
In the past, especially with the popularization of smartphones, people used to celebrate the Chinese New Year by sending blessing messages to each other through their mobile phones. Many people will even carefully prepare blessings at 0:00 on the first day of the Lunar New Year, hoping to send different blessings to everyone with their hearts to express their emotions. This year, however, a different story has emerged. Except for the sporadic ** messages sent by a few people, most people did not send blessing messages as frequently as in previous years. I learned from my friends that the situation was much the same.
This change shows that people are tired of the cookie-cutter blessing messages, which is not only a waste of time, but can also cause distress to others. As a result, many people choose not to send blessings. Even the number of people who send red envelopes online has been greatly reduced. In the past, every Spring Festival, a large number of red envelopes would emerge in various social groups. However, nowadays, people who send red envelopes are scarce, especially in the group. It can be seen from the data of a letter red envelope that compared with Chinese New Year's Eve in 2017, the red envelope sending and receiving data on Chinese New Year's Eve in 2024 has shown a significant cliff-like decline.
This change also reflects people's sober attitude, and they no longer like and are unwilling to participate in the kind of behavior that seems to be "holiday internal friction". As a migrant worker, I returned home to find that more than half of the New Year's goods were less than half of the goods at home. As a native of the countryside, I often lament that there are too many New Year's goods at home to eat, but my parents always insist on having enough of them. However, this year I learned that compared with previous years, the ** of this year's New Year's goods is not much different from usual. My parents told me that prices are relatively stable now, and although there is a slight increase during the Chinese New Year, it is not too exaggerated. People's living conditions are much better than before, and they can buy all kinds of delicious food on a regular basis, so the need to prepare New Year's goods in advance is not so strong.
This year's fireworks are indeed a lot. For example, the "Gatling" ceremonial flowers in our town can be sold for more than 50 pieces, and even more than 80 yuan in some places, not including those worth tens of thousands of dollars. However, even so, the people in the village are still enthusiastic and even buy more. Many families even bought fireworks for thousands of dollars. Especially on Chinese New Year's Eve, from five o'clock in the evening, the sound of firecrackers continues until seven or eight o'clock. In the early morning of the first day of the new year, from zero o'clock, the sound of firecrackers until five or six o'clock in the morning. On the third day of the Lunar New Year, we worship our ancestors here, and the sound of firecrackers in the early morning lasts for three or four hours.
I never thought that in a small village, there would be a traffic jam. Especially on the second day of the Lunar New Year, the day when we went to relatives, the road was simply full of traffic, a narrow road was crowded with vehicles, not only were there cars parked on both sides, but there was also a long queue in the middle of the road. Relatives have become very irritable because of traffic jams.
In the past, on Chinese New Year's Eve, almost always carried a bottle of wine, went everywhere to greet the New Year, and everyone talked to each other about the experience of the year. This year, however, there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of people visiting relatives and friends for alcohol. Most people are reluctant to go out unless invited or have a very close relationship. Even when you drink, you always drink until you get it, and you don't want to drink more to be better than you used to. Many people choose to accompany their families to watch the Spring Festival Gala, and sometimes even fall asleep before 12 o'clock.
In addition, a certain Fubao has started a boom in national blessings. In the first year, those who collect a set of blessings can even get thousands of yuan in red envelopes. However, today, various apps have launched different forms of "blessing" activities, but people's interest has greatly diminished. People lost interest in collecting blessings for only two or three dollars in the end, and they could add up to a few minutes on the last night.
The six "abnormal" phenomena mentioned above all show that people's attitudes towards some new things in the past have changed. Despite the progress of the times, the traditional way of celebrating the Chinese New Year has not kept up with the changes, and people have lost interest in those "innovations" that were once "innovative". People's living standards have improved, and the sense of anticipation and interest in the New Year has also weakened. Perhaps, this is an important reason why the "New Year's flavor" has become weaker!
