years, the initial police rank has not reached the grassroots level.

In the previous articles, we shared some stories in the development and construction of China's police force, including the changes in police uniforms, the update of equipment and so on.

Today, let's take a look at the rank system of our police force. In the mid-to-late 50s, a very complete system of ranks was set up in our police force, which was planned to be implemented in 1957.

However, this system of police ranks was not finally implemented and became part of history. So, why is this happening? Let's uncover the veil of history and explore its mysteries.

Police ranks originated in Britain and France in the 19th century, and with the popularization of the police system, Western countries began to gradually use police ranks, forming two systems: marine and continental.

Marine police ranks are mainly used in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and other countries, while mainland police ranks are mainly used in Germany, France, ** and other countries. In fact, the French police rank model is the most classic, which adopts a hybrid model of marine and continental systems.

There is no distinction between advanced and backward police ranks in the two systems, and they are gradually formed according to the actual needs of each country.

In ancient history, there was no professional police force in our country, only officials and officials to maintain social order, which was not professional enough. However, after 1840, the Western powers launched a series of wars against the Qing Dynasty, such as the Second Opium War and the Sino-Japanese War, which forced the Qing Dynasty to sign a series of unequal treaties and cede large tracts of land, and its dominance was greatly challenged.

In response to this situation, the Qing Dynasty began the reform of the late Qing Dynasty, in which the formation of a modern police force was an important part. However, the initial pilot in Tianjin, Chengdu and other cities has not been fully promoted.

With the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912, China entered a complex period of warlord warfare, although the regime at that time continued to promote the construction of modern police, but due to a large number of hooligans, gangsters and ruffians mixed into the police force, the police atmosphere of the old era was extremely poor.

Mr. Lao She's "My Life" depicts the dark side of the police in the old era of bullying the masses and killing good and risking merit. These policemen are all dressed in black police uniforms, and the masses call them "bosses and chiefs" on the surface, but behind the scenes they are contemptuous of "black skins, black dogs, or black crows".

However, with the founding of the People's Republic of China, the large-scale war has ended, and the country has entered the stage of post-war reconstruction and economic development. Therefore, our country has completely abolished the old police system and established a completely new people's police force.

By the mid-to-early 50s, the framework of China's police force had been basically formed, although in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to limited conditions, China's police force did not use police ranks, and the 50-style police uniform was relatively simple and belonged to a temporary transitional nature.

In December 1949, our police force established a set of 2nd class 6th rank ranks, but it was too simple to be implemented. At the same time, the police force is still in the formation stage, and it is not mature in all aspects, and it is not suitable for the use of police ranks.

In 1955, with the end of the large-scale war, China entered the stage of post-war reconstruction and economic development, and the PLA troops began to change their Type 55 uniforms and ranks, marking an important step in the regularization of China's armed forces.

During the same period, China's police force also began to be regularized, and 55-style police uniforms were piloted in nine major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin. The design of the Type 55 police uniform is very classic and carries the memories of a generation.

The summer uniform is made of white shirts and navy blue pants, which symbolizes the purpose of the police force to "serve the people with innocence".

The Type 55 police uniform is mainly navy blue, with male police summer tunics and female police summer dresses with large lapels. Male police officers wear flat-topped large-brimmed hats, and female police officers wear beanies.

The female policeman wears a Lenin outfit in winter with lapels. In addition, another feature of the Type 55 police uniform is that there are buttonholes on the shoulders wearing epaulettes of police ranks, which indicates that our country will award police ranks to the police force.

In fact, we do plan to confer ranks on the police force and have already begun to design them. The designed police ranks are basically borrowed from the ranks of military ranks, which are divided into six classes and seventeen grades, including general, lieutenant general, major general, colonel, colonel, lieutenant colonel, major, captain, captain, lieutenant, second lieutenant, warrant officer, sergeant, sergeant, corporal, private, and private.

In the 50s, we designed a set of police ranks with green collar badges, which were originally planned to be introduced in October 1957. However, for various reasons, this plan was put on hold for the time being, and the set of police ranks was not issued.

In 1958, China's police force began to change the Type 58 police uniform, which is an improved version of the Type 55 police uniform, canceling the epaulette buttonholes and epaulette loops, and at the same time canceling the green ribbon on the police cap and the apricot yellow ribbon of the professional police, adding a new collar badge design.

Although this set of police ranks designed in the 50s was not used at the grassroots level, it summed up the design experience of various aspects and laid the foundation for the later 1992-style police ranks.

Therefore, we can say that this set of police ranks in the 50s was the first type of police rank designed by the police force of our country.

The change of police uniforms represents the continuous development and growth of our police force. In future articles, I will share with you more stories about the history of the construction of our country's police force, so stay tuned.
