Batteries are the core of energy storage and the core of electric vehicles! It can also be said to be the core of the future electrification era!
Hydropower, solar energy, wind power, nuclear energy, it is impossible to use up the electricity immediately, and it is necessary to store the electric energy and release it at the peak of electricity consumption in the peak stage of electricity consumption. That's the essence of energy storage!
When domestic new energy car manufacturers are studying how to install refrigerators and large screens for cars, foreign car companies are researching new technologies!
Recently, Samsung revealed that it plans to launch all-solid-state batteries with an energy density of more than 900 watt-hours by 2027, which may be used in electric vehicles first, and then in electronic products such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
In addition to Samsung, LG New Energy, which is also a Korean company, has chosen a joint development path with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Seoul National University and other institutions. They plan to industrialize polymer semi-solid-state batteries by 2026, mass production of polymer all-solid-state batteries in 2028, and mass production of sulfide all-solid-state batteries in 2030.
In other words, the R&D goals of these two companies are to mass-produce all-solid-state batteries around 2027 and 2028.
Solid-state batteries are currently recognized as the next generation of power battery research and development direction, it has great potential, it can even be said that who gets the solid-state battery, who will achieve the effect of turning the tide in the field of new energy, therefore, don't look at the current Japanese car companies, Korean car companies in the field of new energy vehicles have made mediocre achievements, once their solid-state batteries are mass-produced, it will bring subversive changes to the new energy vehicle industry.
Compared with liquid batteries, solid-state batteries simply replace the liquid electrolyte with a solid-state electrolyte, although it is only a small change, but the improvement brought is revolutionary.
First, there is the issue of security.
The power battery of electric vehicles is prone to thermal runaway, mainly because of the defects of liquid lithium-ion batteries, for example, when the battery is squeezed, the separator is easy to break and cause short circuits, resulting in thermal runaway, and there is a liquid electrolyte, which has poor stability and flammable substances inside, so thermal runaway is easy to lead to deflagration, and the thermal management system of various car companies is basically a symptom rather than a cure. The solid-state battery has removed the liquid electrolyte, and the separator is gone, which greatly improves safety.
Second, there is the issue of charging speed.
The key reason is that the liquid lithium-ion battery is unstable, and the charging speed must be controlled, and trickle charging is used to improve safety, while after the emergence of solid-state lithium-ion batteries, the charging speed will be qualitatively improved, full in 10 minutes, and do not play 30-80% word games.
Third, there is the issue of range anxiety.
Although the cruising range of mainstream electric vehicles can reach more than 500km, or even 1000km, it will always be seriously discounted when encountering low temperatures, and solid-state batteries have greatly reduced their performance attenuation at low temperatures because they have dried up the liquid electrolyte, and the energy density has increased significantly, liquid lithium-ion batteries, the energy density ceiling of 350Wh kg is difficult to break, while solid-state batteries can reach more than 500Wh kg.
Regardless of whether Samsung's remarks are true or not, smoke bombs or not, we need to be vigilant, new energy vehicles have been subsidized for 15 years, with a cumulative investment of more than 100 billion, new energy vehicles have become the business card of Chinese car companies, and they must not be peached.
Domestic battery companies are also stepping up solid-state batteries, but I hope they are really serious about it, not to obtain state subsidies! We have lost an era of fuel vehicles, and we can no longer lose electric cars.
Finally, there is a hydrogen fuel cell, which should be the best way to do future technology. Completely pollution-free.
My first article was to write about hydrogen energy, and if there is a technological breakthrough in hydrogen energy in the future, I will share it again, and you can follow the news.
Personal opinion, for reference only, investment is risky, you need to be cautious when entering the market!
