Interestingly, though, although Liverpool has suffered the most on the surface, Liverpool are still the top team in the table if the VAR impact is excluded, and on the contrary, it will be one point less than the current real standings. In fact, the top 8 teams will not change their rankings, nor will they have an impact on the rankings of the 8 teams from 13th to 20th. That said, only Wolves, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Chelsea will be slightly different.
The biggest gainers in points are Chelsea, who would have lost five points and dropped one place without VAR; Villa and Burnley, on the other hand, were "deducted" by VAR by 2 points, the most of each team, but the actual standings did not change. Of course, there are still a lot of imperfections in VAR, especially this season, the trust in VAR has almost hit rock bottom, and the 20 VAR misjudgments so far this season have reached 80% of last season's total mistakes.
From a statistical point of view, the accuracy rate of Premier League referees has increased from 82% before the application of VAR in 2019 to 96% now, which has played a positive role in Fair Play overall. However, at the micro level, individual penalty cases have become more and more outrageous, so that the Premier League has to apologize many times, but because the various negative and negative positives cancel each other, it has not had a fundamental impact on the actual competition situation of the Premier League.
