The league today announced a fine in which Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was fined $40,000 by the NBA for "repeatedly publicly criticizing referees."
Edwards has always spoken boldly, touching the Warriors' Dream Green and provoking the Clippers' Big Four. After the Timberwolves' 107-101 win over the Thunder, Edwards publicly criticized the referees, yelled at the dog referees, and defiantly said, "Come on, punish me." ”
Huazi was happy to pay the $40,000 fine, the largest fine a player has received this season for publicly criticizing a referee. Edwards scored 27 points in that game, and when Edwards dunked with 1:57 left in the game, he thought he had been fouled by the Thunder's Alexander, but the referee didn't blow it. The replay clearly showed that Thunder player Alexander grabbed his left arm.
Edwards made headlines with some of his post-match comments.
The referee was **, shouted Edwards after the game as he celebrated the victory with Gobert. "Dog referee, I can accept the fine because the referee didn't give us a whistle tonight.
The referee was terrible, we were 5 to 8. ”
I haven't earned the respect of the referee yet, so it's okay, but I think the referee was terrible tonight. It's horrible. As a team, I got fouled a couple of times, and I walked up to the referee and said, 'Hey, can you watch this?' They just shook their heads. ”
The referee was dumb tonight, so everything was fine, it wasn't fair, but it turned out to be good. ”
In that game, the Timberwolves made 15 free throws, Edwards made four, and the Thunder Alexander alone made 16 free throws. Edwards is averaging 6. per game this season4 free throws, Alexander averaged 92 free throws.
According to the final two-minute game report released by the NBA, it was decided that Alexander did not foul Edwards. The Timberwolves currently sit at the top of the Western Conference with 33 wins and 14 losses, and Huazi is currently averaging 25 per game this season9 points 52 rebounds 53 assists.
This isn't the first time Edwards has complained about referee blows, as in the Jan. 21 Timberwolves-Thunder game, Huazi said that Alexander should not be touched at any time during the game because he could easily get the whistle.
The league has penalized several referee-bashing cases this season, with Raptors head coach Rajakovic being fined 2 for ranting at referees after the game$50,000, Kings head coach Mike Brown criticized the referee and was fined $50,000.
