Since the outbreak of the new Palestinian-Israeli conflict last year, a large number of Palestinians have been displaced by the fighting. Thousands of Palestinians have fled Mawasi, in the southern Gaza Strip, where supplies are scarce.
Mawasi is not a large area, and as far as the eye can see, there are dense nylon tents. During the cold winter months, these tents are barely able to withstand the cold.
In addition, as a result of the recent Israeli offensive against Khan Younis, more and more Palestinians have come to the small area of Mahawasi, resulting in a scarcity of supplies and the fact that even drinking water can only be delivered once every three days.
People in the Gaza Strip: We have five people in our family, and the situation here is very difficult. The situation has been made even more difficult by the increase in the number of displaced people following the blow to Khan Younis. There was a shortage of drinking water, and drinking water was only distributed to us once every three days, and we wanted to go out and buy something, but we had no income, nothing. Even if we want to take the simplest of objects, we have to walk a long distance, this is not life.
People in the Gaza Strip: Prices are soaring and suffocating, it's horrible. We don't have income** and it's overcrowded. There is no one to collect the garbage at all, and the garbage is piled up, and when it rains, it is even more of a mess. The situation here is nothing short of catastrophic, and we don't know what will happen next.
Located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, Mawasi covers an area of only a few square kilometres and lacks the infrastructure to accommodate a large population. Earlier, the Israeli army claimed to seek the establishment of a so-called "safe zone" here, and more than a dozen organizations, including UN agencies and international charities, issued a joint statement saying that they opposed the unilateral establishment of the "safe zone".
