Even if the deceased is only a teenager, he is considered to be an adult, and his family has to send him to his fate. If the deceased does not have a son-in-law, ask someone from another family with the same surname or the same surname to carry it. Wang Xianyou, president of the Chicken Chop Field Festival Association, introduced.
At the beginning of the event, the men gathered at the "blessed land" to raise a glass and talk about the events of the year. Women gather around the fire and serve rice wine and charcoal-grilled rice cakes to relatives and friends. Relatives and friends greeted the bereaved family and wished the deceased a smooth westward journey. Immediately afterwards, long bamboo poles were erected on the "blessed land", and red firecrackers were tied to the poles, and each bamboo pole represented a loved one who had passed away in the past year. At the beginning of the year, families light firecrackers and set off fireworks, and men carry the relics of their ancestors and dance the reed sheng dance around the firecracker forest to express their reluctance and longing for the deceased, and pray for the safety of their families.
The chicken chop field jumping activity preserves the important information such as farming culture, folk activities, and marriage customs of the "Siyin and Miao people", and has important historical, cultural and social values, and is a representative folk festival activity. In June 2019, it was listed as the sixth batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage projects by the people of Guizhou Province.
