Jamie Monquay has been clamoring for a memorable fight in his career, and now he's finally getting his chance.

According to ESPN, former WBO super welterweight world champion Jamie Monquia and his team have officially begun negotiations with Saul Alvarez's team, and the two sides are likely to have a "Mexican civil war" in the super middleweight division. In a super middleweight boxing bout on January 27 this year, Jamie Monquaia defeated John Ryder of Great Britain by a one-sided margin in the ninth round, and after the fight, Jamie Monquaia expressed his desire to challenge Saul Alvarez in his post-fight press conference.

Speaking after the game, Jamie Monquia said: "I'm motivated for the next race; It's going to be better than this one, and it's going to be bigger, and I want to face the best opponent in the super middleweight division, and I'm going to be the world champion in this division. It's going to be a great match between Mexicans, and if Sur Alvarez gives me a chance, it will be a great honour to play with him. ”

At the moment, Saul Alvarez has yet to announce his next opponent (he has two more fights left on his contract with Al Haymon). Industry speculation is that Sur Alvarez will be held during the traditional Mexican festival of Cinco de Mayo, most likely in Las Vegas, although the tournament has not yet received any official certification.

Saul Alvarez and Jamie Monquia were once brothers, but their relationship changed in 2020 when Saul Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotion went to court and eventually parted ways. Since then, Saul Alvarez has become a freelance boxer, working first with Eddie Hearn's Arena Boxing Promotion Company before moving to Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions.

There are reports that although the two big-name fighters from Mexico have made progress in their negotiations, they are still in the preliminary stages. No information is expected to be released in the coming days.

Jamie Monquaa, who is currently the top challenger in the WBO super middleweight division, previously announced that they will not force Jamie Monquaya to enforce his mandatory challenge rights before the end of the year. So even though Jamie Monquaa is Sur Alvarez's top challenger at the WBO, he still needs a nod from Sur Alvarez.

There is speculation that reigning WBC middleweight world champion Gemmal Charlo will be Sur Alvarez's first opponent of the year, while Jamie Monquia could enter Sur Alvarez's sights as an attractive option after the Cinco de Mayo to face Sur Alvarez later this year.
