Recently, Jon Peddie Research released the latest market research report, showing that in the fourth quarter of 2023, global PC client-based CPU shipments increased by 22% year-on-year and 7% quarter-on-quarter to 66 million. Integrated GPU (IGPU) shipments increased 18% year-over-year and 7% sequentially to 60 million. It is expected that in the next five years, the penetration rate of nuclear display in the PC field will increase to 98%.
In terms of shipments, the CPU market in 2023 has fully recovered from the decline in demand at the beginning of 2023, and even surpassed the 2021-2022 COVID period, with 3.3 million more than at the end of the epidemic in the third quarter of 2022.
Another interesting metric is the percentage of desktop CPUs shipped, which accounted for 30% of shipments in Q4 2023, down a lot from 37% in Q4 2022. This is due to the fact that during the epidemic, working from home does not require frequent machine movements, and after the epidemic, there are more opportunities to go out, and laptops are more suitable for travel. Manufacturers are also focusing on mobile CPUs, and new products with Intel's Meteor Lake and AMD Ryzen 8000 series will also boost sales.
According to Jon Peddie Research, integrated GPU shipments are also increasing along with overall CPU shipments, and penetration will continue to rise. On the one hand, this is due to the larger shipments of mobile processors, and on the other hand, it is related to AMD's inclusion of integrated GPUs on mainstream desktop CPUs, even if only to provide basic functionality.
