Recently, the People's Procuratorate of Duchang County, Jiangxi Province, handled a case of selling toxic and harmful food.
From January 2019 to May 2023, Ding purchased the "Ancient Herbal Fat Dissolving Pill" ** capsule through the online platform, and promoted and sold it in the circle of friends, with a sales amount of more than 180,000 yuan. The ** capsules sold by the two caused many "** people" to have adverse symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and insomnia. After testing, the "** capsules" involved in the case all contained sibutramine ingredients, which were expressly prohibited by the State Administration for Market Regulation (sibutramine belongs to the substances on the list of substances that may be illegally added to health foods, and is a "toxic and harmful non-food raw material").
In June 2023, the case was detected by the Duchang County Public Security Bureau, and the case was transferred to the Duchang County People's Procuratorate for review and prosecution. After the county procuratorate accepted the case, it found that the defendants Ding and Li violated the provisions of Article 144 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China by selling toxic and harmful food, and that the facts of the crime were clear, and the evidence was credible and sufficient, and that they should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of selling toxic and harmful food.
In September 2023, the Duchang County People's Procuratorate prosecuted Ding and Li on suspicion of selling toxic and harmful food in accordance with the law.
