Recently, solid-state battery technology has attracted widespread attention from the industry, major companies have taken the lead in layout, and two car companies have reported new developments.

BAIC Blue Valley carried out a verification test of solid-state battery mounting

On February 2, BAIC Blue Valley said on the interactive platform that the company attaches great importance to the application of new technologies, always tracks the cutting-edge dynamics of solid-state batteries, continues to maintain communication with scientific research institutes and related enterprises, carries out solid-state battery verification tests, and actively promotes the industrial application of solid-state batteries.

According to the data, BAIC Blue Valley is a listed company of Beijing Automotive Group, with two brands, Jihu and Beijing. Jihu is a high-end intelligent pure electric brand, with in-depth cooperation with Huawei, Beijing is a cost-effective brand, the main models on sale are BEIJINGEU7 and BEIJINGEU5.

It is reported that BAIC Blue Valley initiated the research on solid-state batteries and vehicle matching technology in 2017, and has been insisting on technological innovation for many years, and has accumulated relevant solid-state battery development experience through the application research of the first and second generation semi-solid-state batteries in the early stage. In the future, we will continue to lay out the development of platform-based power battery systems.

In addition, BAIC Industrial Investment, as a wholly-owned secondary subsidiary of BAIC Group, has also continued to follow up on multiple rounds of investment in Qingtao Energy, the leader of next-generation solid-state battery technology, and actively promoted its industrial interaction with BAIC Group's OEMs, and will focus on promoting the large-scale application of solid-state battery products in the field of on-board power batteries in the future.

GM obtains a patent for a sulfide solid-state battery

On January 31, according to the announcement of the State Intellectual Property Office, General Motors Global Technology Operation Co., Ltd. obtained a project called "Manufacturing Method for Sulfide-impregnated Solid-State Batteries", authorized announcement number CN112310465B, and the application date is July 2019.

The patent abstract shows a method for manufacturing sulfide-impregnated solid-state batteries. This method involves the supply of battery cells consisting of battery cells. The battery cell comprises: a positive electrode, comprising a positive electrode layer and a positive current collector; negative electrode, including negative electrode layer and negative electrode current collector; and a diaphragm layer, which is set between the positive and negative electrodes. This diaphragm consists of a permeable oxide-based membrane.

This basic battery cell can be repeatedly connected in parallel or series (i.e., bipolar stacking) to form a battery cell that obtains the required battery voltage, power, and energy. Partially seal the battery cell in packaging (e.g. aluminum laminate film and metal cans).

The method also includes the introduction into the battery cell of a sulfide solid electrolyte (SSE) precursor solution, which includes a sulfide solid electrolyte and solvent. The method also involves evaporating the solvent from the cell to dry the cell, which solidifies the sulfide-based solid electrolyte inside the cell and pressurizes the cell to densify the solid sulfide-based electrolyte within the cell, and then seals the cell completely.
