In 1985, the DPRK held a commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers fighting in Korea, and one of the combat heroes was received twice by Kim Il Sung for his special performance.
After the conference, the hero also went to the Volunteer Martyrs' Cemetery to check his tombstone and brought back his "posthumous portrait" from the military museum. Why is that?
Chai Yunzhen, a combat hero worthy of admiration, is a first-class combat hero and special meritorious hero of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army. In 1950, he embarked on the journey to resist US aggression and aid Korea with the troops.
In an important battle the following year, the 3rd Battalion of the 45th Division of the 15th Army, where Chai Yunzhen belonged, carried out the famous Park Dafeng Blocking Battle in order to protect the command posts of our side and the North Korean side and a rear hospital.
After six days and six nights of fierce fighting, the forward positions of the 3rd Battalion were occupied by the enemy several times, and the situation was extremely critical. If positions are not recaptured as soon as possible, the consequences will be unimaginable. At this critical moment, the battalion commander found Chai Yunzhen and gave him a difficult task: "Squad leader Chai is a combat hero, and now the forward position needs you."
Take your squad back to the front line and be sure to complete the mission! In the face of the arduous task, Chai Yunzhen said firmly: "Resolutely complete the task!" He immediately led his squad to attack two high ground near the enemy, and successfully recaptured both high ground.
However, the enemy's artillery fire did not stop because of this, but intensified. Chai Yunzhen keenly observed that the enemy's command post was on the high ground ahead, and they not only set up a command post, but also set up an observation post on the high ground in order to better carry out fire strikes on our position.
With his outstanding military qualities and extraordinary bravery, Chai Yunzhen saw through the enemy's conspiracy and lifted the threat to our position.
Under the cover of his comrades-in-arms, Chai Yunzhen took advantage of the enemy's artillery fire to cover, bravely touched the top of the mountain, quickly approached the enemy's command post, swept past, killed the commander, and then carried out fierce strafing fire, which caught the enemy by surprise.
The enemy was stunned by this unexpected attack, and fled for their lives, and it took a while to come back to their senses and find that Chai Yunzhen was alone, so they began to besiege him. However, Chai Yunzhen ran out of ammunition, so he threw down his gun and began to engage the enemy in hand-to-hand combat.
During the battle, his right index finger was bitten off by the enemy, his head was wounded, and his waist was also coldly hit by the enemy, and he passed out. At this critical moment, other comrades-in-arms arrived and rescued Chai Yunzhen in time and sent him to the rear hospital.
In the blocking battle, Chai Yunzhen led the whole squad to successfully eliminate the enemy's command post, take 3 hills, kill 236 enemies, and ensure the safety of our front-line headquarters, North Korean headquarters, and rear hospitals.
After learning of Chai Yunzhen's heroic deeds, the Political Department of the Volunteer Army issued Order No. 1, awarding him the glorious title of special meritorious hero and first-class combat hero.
Mr. Peng highly praised Qin Jiwei and asked him about the identity of the battle hero, and when he learned that he was the hero of the battle of crossing the river, Mr. Peng praised him again and again for his outstanding performance.
However, Chai Yunzhen later mysteriously disappeared because he was too injured and was taken to the rear hospital, and doctors thought that his survival probability was very low, so he was sent to the Baotou City Military Hospital in Inner Mongolia again.
However, due to the excessive number of wounded troops during the war years and the relocation of troops after the war, Chai Yunzhen lost contact with the troops. After a year in the hospital, Chai Yunzhen chose to change jobs in the hospital, and after receiving the demobilization pay, he returned to his hometown to work, while the military merit medals and medals awarded to him by the army were not received.
Qin Jiwei has been trying to find Chai Yunzhen, but he has never been able to find it, and in the end, the troops can only believe that Chai Yunzhen has died and rated him as a martyr. Despite this, Qin Jiwei still did not give up the search, and sent people to Anhui, Shandong, Jiangxi and other places to look for him, but he still did not find Chai Yunzhen's whereabouts.
Looking for heroes: Chai Yunzhen's legendary life Chai Yunzhen, a combat hero who bravely killed the enemy in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, was "alive" again after 33 years of incognito.
His story has touched countless people. In 1985, when China and North Korea were going to hold a commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the entry of the Chinese People's Volunteers into the DPRK, Kim Il Sung specifically asked to find Chai Yunzhen, a combat hero.
Deng Gong also gave special instructions: Chai Yunzhen must be found, and if the person is really sacrificed, his family must also be contacted. In order to find this hero, the army set up a special search team to publish search news in major **.
After unremitting efforts, Chai Yunzhen finally learned that the old army was looking for him, so he took the initiative to contact the troops. This former hero is back in sight.
The veteran army specially held a heroic commendation meeting for Chai Yunzhen, and the Central Military Commission sent him to North Korea to participate in the commemoration of the 35 th anniversary of the entry of the Chinese Volunteers into the DPRK. When Kim Il Sung got the news that he was alive, he was overjoyed and had the opening scene.
However, Chai Yunzhen's saga did not end there. On December 26, 2018, Chai Yunzhen passed his life peacefully at the age of 93.
