Many tourists take advantage of the Spring Festival holiday to enjoy ice and snow sports, snowboard pushing slopes, falling leaves, snow ...... small turnsEveryone was eager to try their hand at showing off their newfound skiing skills. If you go back in time, how did the ancients play ice and snow sports?

Ice skating, also known as "ice play", is a winter sport with a long history that is popular in northern China. If you want to skate well, of course, a good pair of skates is indispensable.

These are Qing Dynasty wooden skates hidden in the Palace Museum, with iron bars embedded under the wooden planks, so that the skating players on the ice can "walk beyond the speed". "Ice play" is also the prototype of many modern ice sports, such as speed skating, figure skating and ice hockey.

This is the "Ice Splash" (detail) in the Palace Museum, painted by Qing Dynasty painters Zhang Weibang and Yao Wenhan. In the picture, many athletes are wearing wooden skates on their feet, forming a long line, performing various difficult movements as they move forward.

It's not enough to have skates, but in the cold winter months, a thick garment is indispensable.

This is a snow-sweeping ferret clothing hidden in the Palace Museum, this dress is made of snow-sweeping ferret, with dense hair, soft leather, and even splicing, which is a practical clothing for hunting in winter.

Ice and snow sports were not actually a competition sport at the beginning, but a snow skiing activity used by the ancients when traveling and hunting.

This is a painted petroglyph of the Dundebulak Cave located in Khandegat Township, Altay City, Xinjiang. According to Zhuoya Baheti, a librarian of the Xinjiang Altay Prefecture Institute of Culture and Museum, this rock painting intuitively presents the real picture of the ancestors using snow pedals (or the predecessor of skis) to ski and hunt. The figures in the petroglyphs bend over their knees, raise their heads and pout their hips, and pedal short snow steps, in the same movements as modern skiing.

It presents the beauty of ancient and modern culture, and shows the style of athletes. Traditional culture and modern sports complement each other, showing people's love and inheritance of ice and snow sports. We are also looking forward to the athletes soaring and dancing on the ice and snow again, and challenging new heights in the pursuit of perfection.

Please check the blessings of the Winter Games
