In recent years, Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship has broken down and become estranged, but a former friend said it was "not easy" for them growing up

Prince Harry and Prince William appear to be embroiled in a vicious feud, but a former friend of theirs said the brothers had developed a "strong sense of independence" after a "very difficult" childhood.

The Duke of Sussex lashed out at his brother in his memoir, Spare, accusing the Prince of Wales of "grabbing me by the collar, ripping my necklace and knocking me to the ground", leaving him frightened. The book also details the tense showdown at Prince Philip's funeral, as well as the tension between the brother and his wife.

Harry said in his Netflix documentary that William was "screaming and yelling" at him at the now-infamous "Sandringham Summit". A former friend is now trying to explain the feud, suggesting that Harry and William didn't have an easy time as children.

Edward Charles Featherstone, a pseudonym chosen by the brothers' former polo friends, told the Mirror: "I don't think you have a close relationship with your parents, for whatever reason, whether you're royalty like William and Harry, or you've lost your parents like William and Harry, if your father was the future King of England, it seems to me that all that creates independence, Because you don't have the bosom of family to lean on, to rely on.

So I guess it's going to be very difficult for both of them. Edward wrote a new book called The Rude Beginning, which he said would cause both Harry and William to develop "very stern appearances".

He added: "They learn to be independent, which is not easy, and certainly not easy. I don't have this situation, I'm in boarding school, but I have a very caring and loving mother. ”

Harry and William's mother, Princess Diana, tragically passed away in a fatal car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. The accident also resulted in the death of her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and their driver, Henri Paul.

Edward's remarks come as Prince Harry has just returned to the United States after his father, King Charles, visited the United Kingdom after being diagnosed with cancer. Although Harry spent some time with the Queen, it is believed that he did not meet his brother.

A source earlier told the Mirror that there was "nothing in the diary" for them to meet, and William was reportedly fully focused on Princess Kate's surgery for now**. However, another person familiar with the matter said Prince Harry would be happy to have the opportunity to meet his brother if possible.

"The main reason the duke went to England was to visit his father," they said. If there is an opportunity to meet the Prince of Wales, then the Duke will gladly accept it. ”
