The original intention of the rural funeral reform was to promote cremation in order to save arable land resources and reduce the burden of funeral expenses on farmers. However, in rural areas where cremation is currently practised, an unsatisfactory situation has emerged. When a rural person dies, the family must take the body to a crematorium for cremation and then pick up an expensive urn at the funeral home. However, instead of being placed in a cemetery, these urns are re-placed in coffins according to traditional burial customs, and then buried on flat farmland to form new graves. This situation has raised questions about why the last link of funeral reform has not been perfected, and why rural people still spend a lot of money to rebury urns in the ground, taking up large tracts of arable land to pile graves. This not only costs the people and money, but also goes against the original intention of the funeral reform.
With regard to this phenomenon, the peasants generally reported that it was "a waste of money by working for the people." Funeral reforms, which were supposed to bring farmers the benefits of saving on funeral costs, actually increased their burden. The current situation is that farmers need to pay an expensive fee for a cremation process and then buy a ** urn, which not only increases their funeral costs, but also does not have the effect of saving land resources and changing customs. Therefore, the peasants are generally dissatisfied with this.
In view of the current problems, according to the areas that have implemented the funeral reform, the following improvement plans are proposed, aiming to save land resources, reduce farmers' funeral expenses, and achieve the purpose of changing customs.
1. Establish rural cemeteries and cemeteries
According to the actual local situation, establish appropriate collective cemeteries and cemeteries for storing the urns of the deceased in rural households. In this way, farmers no longer need to rebury urns in the land, saving large tracts of arable land. According to experts, each deceased person only needs to occupy about 1 square meter of land area, while the traditional burial method needs to occupy about 12 square meters of land area. The establishment of cemeteries and cemeteries can not only make full use of the abandoned land that cannot be used for farming, but also save a lot of arable land resources, so as to achieve the effect of killing two birds with one stone.
2. Promote changing customs and reduce farmers' funeral expenses
A large number of coffins are required for burial, and due to the limited forest resources in rural areas, there is a lack of sufficient wood to make coffins. Through the establishment of cemetery management, the funeral expenses of farmers can be effectively reduced. This not only saves the cost of the coffin, but also significantly reduces the huge financial waste caused by the burial custom. Farmers no longer need to spend large sums of money on coffins, which can reduce financial pressure and enjoy more affordable funeral methods.
3. Low storage costs for cemeteries
The cemetery established by the village collective can use the worthless land according to local conditions, which not only saves the money of the land, but also reduces the cost of the villagers to buy the tomb soil. The construction and management costs of the cemetery can be resolved through the consultation of the villagers' committee, which will inevitably be supported and recognized by the villagers.
Funeral reform is a major social reform aimed at saving land resources, reducing farmers' funeral costs, and promoting changes in customs. However, in the actual implementation process, due to the imperfection of the last link, farmers are facing a higher economic burden. In order to solve this problem, a program was put forward to establish rural cemeteries and cemeteries to reduce the burden on the peasants. Through the establishment of cemeteries, land resources can be effectively saved, funeral costs can be reduced, and customs can be changed. This is not only an economic measure, but also a manifestation of the progress of social civilization.
Through the implementation of the above program, we have reason to believe that in the process of reform and promotion, we will encounter various difficulties and resistance, but as long as we persevere, perseverance, I believe that the funeral reform will achieve more significant results, farmers will enjoy a more convenient and affordable funeral method, and our rural areas will also get better development and progress.
