Polyglot Gathering (Esperanto plurlin**ula kunveno) is an international event that began in 2014 and is now one of the largest language-themed gatherings in the world. The Multilingual Gathering was initiated by Esperanto and is currently organized by the Esperanto Youth Organization edukado@interreto (e@i), of which the International Esperanto Association is one of its sponsors.
In 2024, there will be two virtual and in-person polyglot gatherings, with polyglot gathering online in February and March and polyglot gathering in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, in May.
The online polyglot gathering will be held at the following times:February 29 to March 3。At the opening of the event, Duncan Charters, President of the International Esperanto Association, will address the global audience, mostly non-Esperantoists, with a special address, which shows that the gathering of polyglots is also an important occasion for the dissemination of Esperanto. To date, more than 400 people have signed up for the virtual multilingual gathering.
For the International Association of Artists, sponsoring polyglot gatherings is part of its communication work (Informa Agado) to help language lovers who attend polyglot gatherings learn about Esperanto. According to the International Association of the World Federation, in response to the lack of understanding of Esperanto in the general society, Esperanto should be strategically displayed at multilingual enthusiasts' events, so that people have the opportunity to see Esperanto activities around the world. Therefore, the content of the event is not just an introduction to the language, but also a presentation of Esperanto as a whole. Some lectures on Esperanto can be found on YouTube at the Multilingual Gathering**.
Part of the program about Esperanto.
The International Association encourages Esperanto to participate in polyglot gatherings as an excellent occasion to reflect the linguistic diversity of humanity, to promote the efforts of people to communicate with each other, and to develop a sense of linguistic diversity. For us, it is also one of the foundations for the peaceful survival and prosperity of humankind.
