Eggplant is a common vegetable, and growing eggplant requires seed germination and seedling cultivation through the seedling process. The eggplant seed seedling process is crucial for the cultivation of eggplant.
1.Seed preparation
First of all, select good-quality, healthy and mature eggplant seeds for seedling. The quality of the seeds can be judged according to the appearance, color, size and other characteristics of the seeds. High-quality seeds usually have a smooth surface, a certain luster, and are free of defects such as diseases and pests. In the process of preparing seeds, pectin and impurities on the surface of seeds can also be removed by washing to improve the germination rate of seeds.
Many farmers encounter difficulties in growing eggplants. Typically, eggplant seeds have a low germination rate, with thick seed skin and mucilage on the surface, resulting in difficult germination. In the traditional germination method, eggplant seeds take 6 to 7 days to emerge. However, the germination process of eggplant seeds could be completed within 4 days by using the method of germination and supplemental ventilation at variable temperature.
2.The method of variable temperature germination of eggplant is as follows:
Step 1: Soak the eggplant seeds in hot water at 55 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes and stir well. The temperature is then gradually reduced to room temperature and soaked for 24 hours. Subsequently, the seeds are washed and removed from the water film, and the seeds are dried to ensure that the seeds are non-slip and non-sticky.
Step 2: Wrap the seeds in a wet gauze or wet towel and place the seeds in a tile pot or container with a "well" frame, making sure that the seeds are at a distance from the air for ventilation. Maintain a temperature of 30 during the day and 20-25 at night to allow the seeds to undergo a temperature change of 5-10 and fully germinate. Turn 3-4 times a day to ensure ventilation. It is not necessary to wash the seeds every day to avoid the formation of a new water film and mucus, which will affect the ventilation effect.
Step 3: When the seeds germinate on day 3 of the germination process, wash and rehydrate thoroughly, remove mucilage, and limit watering overnight. Then, continue with variable temperature germination, maintaining a high temperature of 30 and a low temperature of 20-25, and the eggplant seeds will quickly germinate and be neatly consistent.
After learning the method of variable temperature germination, you will be able to raise eggplant seedlings according to your favorite varieties. For the low temperature environment in early spring, early maturing and cold-tolerant varieties such as Zican Eggplant No. 1, Spring Eggplant Zaoyu, Luoyang Early Green Eggplant and other early-maturing cold-tolerant varieties are very suitable for planting. There are many ways to eat eggplant, such as braised eggplant, fish-flavored eggplant, minced eggplant, steamed eggplant, grilled eggplant, etc., which can be used as a main dish or side dish, and the taste is delicious and loved by people.
By learning the method of variable temperature germination of eggplant and selecting the right variety, farmers will be able to raise and plant eggplant seedlings on their own, and the eggplant seeds can be planted under suitable seedling conditions and achieve good growth results after special disinfection treatment.
3.It takes about 60 days for eggplants to be grown. During this time, special attention needs to be paid to the following issues:
The first is sowing. At the time of sowing, the germinated seeds are placed in a nursery container, and the seeds are covered with 05-1 cm of fine soil, patiently waiting for the seeds to germinate. After sowing, place the seeds in a well-ventilated and well-lit place and water them appropriately to avoid over-elongation of the eggplant seedlings. Fertilization is not recommended during the seedling growth stage, just water according to the moisture of the soil.
The second is to control the temperature. After sowing, the room temperature is required to be kept at 25-30 °C and to provide even light. After the seedlings are unearthed, they should be properly ventilated when the temperature exceeds 28, but excessive ventilation should be avoided. When the room temperature drops to 20, stop ventilating. At the stage when the true leaves grow and begin to unfold, the room temperature can be increased to 25-27 during the day, 16-18 at night, and 18-20 at ground temperature to promote the vigorous growth of eggplant.
Then there is timely transplanting.
When the eggplant seeds germinate and the seedlings begin to grow, they need to be transplanted in time. The right time is to wait until the first pair of true leaves of the seedlings unfold and harden, usually around 5-6 days. When transplanting, you can choose a larger container or seedling tray to transplant the seedlings into a new culture soil and maintain proper moisture. After transplanting, care should be taken to give enough light and suitable temperature to encourage eggplant seedlings to continue to grow and form a strong root system.
Finally, there is management and care.
In the whole process of eggplant seed rearing, proper management and care are also required. Be sure to keep the nursery environment clean and hygienic to avoid pests and diseases. Watering promptly, but avoid standing water and overwatering that can lead to root rot. You can choose to apply organic fertilizer or liquid fertilizer in an appropriate amount to provide sufficient nutrient supply and promote the healthy growth of eggplant seedlings. At the same time, it is necessary to regularly check the growth of seedlings, and find and deal with possible problems in time, such as seedlings too dense, lodging, etc.
The whole process of eggplant seed seedling raising includes seed preparation, uniform sowing, suitable environment, timely transplanting, management and care. Through correct operation and reasonable management, the germination rate of eggplant seeds and the growth quality of seedlings can be improved, which can lay a good foundation for subsequent eggplant planting.
