Even without U.S. military assistance, occupied Crimea will be surrounded by Ukrainian forces this year. This point of view was stated by Roman Svitan, a reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, an instructor of pilots, during a live broadcast on NV radio.
He said that the Crimean peninsula itself is a geographically fenced Jedi unless the occupying side has air and sea superiority.
Crimea is connected to the mainland by two narrow passages: to the north, by the 8-kilometer-wide Perekop Isthmus, and to the west, to the Russian Taman Peninsula by the Kerch Bridge. Both channels can be easily cut off."
Ukraine pushes back a little further distance in the Kherson region to threaten the lines of communication on the isthmus; Ukrainian missiles and unmanned ships can threaten the Crimean bridge. In this way, Russia can only maintain the defenders of the peninsula through air supplies, but Russia also has no air supremacy.
As for sea transport, Svetan stressed: "In total, the Russians have about five or six large landing ships left - the capacity of these landing ships is about the equivalent of a military train." If all these landing ships are destroyed, the logistics of the Russian garrison on the peninsula will encounter great problems."
Svetan noted that after cutting off Russia's "bridge" to the Crimea and sea transport, the army reserves on the peninsula will be enough to hold out for only a month and a half to two months.
