A few days ago, the team came to Xiamen, Fujian Province, and on the way to the rescue and breeding base of Chinese white dolphins in Huojiaoyu, they encountered several Chinese white dolphins unexpectedly.
This is the only dolphin named after "China" in the world, known as the "sea giant panda", distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan and other places, but Xiamen is one of the few places in the country where you can see Chinese white dolphins in urban waters.

Why do Chinese white dolphins favor Xiamen? Experts who traveled with the boat said that the marine ecological environment is good, and the Chinese white dolphin is one of the indicator species. The appearance of Chinese white dolphins in Xiamen indicates that the local marine ecological protection and restoration has achieved remarkable results. Data shows that the population of Chinese white dolphins in Xiamen waters has increased from 60 in the early 90s of last century to more than 80 today.
The "chance encounter" between the group and the Chinese white dolphin is the epitome of the ecological butterfly change on Egret Island. Going back further, the beginning of this change can start with a lake.

"Yundang Fishing Fire" was once a scene in Xiamen. In the 70s of the last century, Xiamen wanted land to the sea, built embankments to enclose the lake, and Yundang Port became Yundang Lake. The construction of embankments has blocked the flow of water, and the emergence of various factories along the lake has discharged sewage into the lake, and the ecological environment has taken a sharp turn.
How can Yundang Lake no longer be black and smelly? In March 1988, the then member of the Standing Committee of the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee and executive vice mayor presided over a special meeting to determine the strategy for governing the lake. He creatively put forward a 20-character governance policy: "governing the lake according to law, intercepting and treating pollution, dredging and building banks, invigorating water bodies, and beautifying the environment."
The comprehensive management of Yundang Lake is one of the important origins of the idea of ecological civilization. Over the past 30 years, under the guidance of the 20-character policy, Yundang Lake has undergone 5** scale renovation, from a "stinky water lake" where everyone covers their noses to a "city living room" with clear water and green banks, and has been selected as the second batch of excellent cases of beautiful rivers and lakes in the country.
Now, Yundang Lake also has a "citizen lake chief". Chen Yajin, who is in his 60s, is a native of Xiamen, and after retiring from his teaching position, he put on the "blue vest" of the volunteer service team, and came to patrol the lake whenever he had time.
With Yundang Lake as the starting point, Xiamen's ecological restoration has gradually expanded from rivers and lakes to the ocean.
The city is on the sea, and the sea is in the city", Xiamen is a typical bay-type city. During the trip to Egret Island, the group went to almost all the local bays and felt the charm of "a high-value ecological garden city".
Stroll through the Maluan Bay Ecological Three Islands Park, the blue waves are rippling, and the egrets are flying together. In the past, the water quality of Maluan Bay was called "Coke" by the common people. After years of treatment, the color of the water changed from a blackened "cola" to a translucent "sprite". Now, rare birds such as the Oriental White Stork and the Black-faced Spoonbill are vying to fly to Maluan Bay for the winter.

Overlooking Xinglin Bay, a section with a total length of 2A 6-kilometre cycle trail spans the bay. Under the sun, the sea is divided into two different sides by the lane, one side is deep blue and the other is bright. Chen Mingfu, president of the Jimei District Bicycle Association, is a frequent visitor here, and he describes his riding experience as "pleasant": "The air in Xinglin Bay is good, and there are riders who come every day. ”

Standing on the bird-watching platform of Wuyuanwan Wetland Park, I saw cormorants lined up on wooden stakes in the water, or resting with their heads bowed, or stretching their wings. Once known as the "Rotten Tide Flat", it now attracts more than 90 species of wild birds. The changes in Wuyuan Bay have made resident Huang Xiaohong admire: "Every day I come to the park for a walk, and I am full of happiness. ”

To clean up marine pollutants, Xiamen handed over a smart answer sheet. In the dispatching center of the Xiamen Marine Environmental Sanitation Management Station, the animation on the big screen simulates the drift trajectory of the garbage drifting in the sea that day. With this set of intelligent marine sanitation system, the dispatch center can forecast the scale and distribution of floating garbage in Xiamen Bay every day, and give accurate interception and collection suggestions.
To protect the "Coastal Guardian" mangrove forest, scientific researchers have devoted a lot of effort. In the Xiatanwei Mangrove Park, the mangrove forests are full of life. Lu Changyi, a professor at the School of Environment and Ecology at Xiamen University, has been deeply involved in mangrove research and protection for more than 40 years, and his invention of the patented technology of "chopsticks seedlings" has increased the survival rate of seedlings to more than 90%. After almost disappearing for more than 20 years, 85 hectares of mangrove forests have been reborn here.

The problems of the marine ecological environment are manifested in the sea, and the roots are on the land. From the outside, there is nothing special about the West Park of Xiamen Nanhu Park, but there is a 2A 50,000 cubic meter storage tank is equivalent to digging out 10 standard swimming pools. This reservoir can collect the intercepted sewage and initial rainwater in the area within the Yundang Lake area to protect the urban water environment.
From lake to bay, from bay to sea, from sea to watershed, from watershed to global ......Each successful case of ecological protection and restoration in Xiamen has keywords such as "comprehensive", "synergistic", "co-ordinated" and "whole". As the general secretary emphasized at the National Conference on Ecological and Environmental Protection last year, "build a large pattern of protection and governance from the top of the mountain to the ocean".
Xiamen is an important breeding ground and pioneer practice place for the idea of ecological civilization. Today's Xiamen, "looking up is a fresh blue, looking around is a pleasant green". Beautiful urban scenery and vigorous development prospects converge in China's bay-shaped city.
