Set up a homework deferred period to allow children to better integrate into the new semester

Text|Wang Can. At present, primary and secondary schools around the country are ushering in the spring semester one after another, and a soul torture has appeared again: Have the children's winter vacation homework been written?

At home, on the high-speed rail, and on the plane, the children are working hard and writing until late at night, which is jokingly called "a person, a pen, a night, to create a miracle". There are also class teachers who issued a "bad warning" for winter vacation homework, and gave solutions one by one for the various reasons that students may give for not completing their winter vacation homework, such as "If you are left in your hometown, hurry up and get it", "If you fall in another city, you will come back by express", "If you are torn up by your younger brothers and sisters, and if you are sold as scrap by your grandmother, buy a new rewrite". This made netizens sigh that the teacher was "professional", and at the same time, they also sweated for those children who had not finished their homework.

However, primary and secondary school students in Chengdu can breathe a sigh of relief. On February 19, the Chengdu Municipal Education Bureau issued the "Notice on Preparing for the Opening of Primary and Secondary Schools and Kindergartens in the Spring Semester of 2024", proposing that two weeks after the start of school is the "homework delay period", and teachers are not allowed to prevent students from coming to school on the grounds that students have not completed their homework. In other words, even if you don't complete your winter vacation homework before the start of school, you can make up for it in the next two weeks.

Nowadays, people's views on winter vacation homework and summer vacation homework are becoming more and more diverse. On the Internet, many teachers, parents and educators have proposed to "cancel homework during winter and summer vacations", believing that children usually study hard enough, and that they should rest more, read extensively, travel to see the world, participate in housework, engage in public welfare activities, etc., which are more worthwhile than lying in front of the desk to write homework.

In the case that the cancellation of winter and summer vacation homework has not yet reached a consensus and put it into practice, setting a "postponement of homework delivery period" is a compromise solution. The effect is obvious: it relieves the psychological stress and anxiety of students who fail to complete their assignments on time, making it easier for them to start the new semester and better transition to a normal state of study. This is a more humane reflection of education's concern for individual differences.

Don't underestimate this tiny move. Although netizens are full of ridicule and ridicule about the phenomenon of students "rushing to work and winter vacation homework", as long as they compare each "post-holiday work syndrome", it is easy to understand the significance and efficacy of this kind of burden reduction and pressure reduction. On a larger level, the establishment of a "postponement period for summer vacation homework" is also a concrete practice to implement the "double reduction" education policy and spirit.

In fact, Chengdu is not the first place to set up a "postponement of delivery time". Last year, Hefei clearly required all schools to set up a "summer vacation homework deferred delivery period"; Many districts in Hangzhou, such as Fuyang District, Shangcheng District, and Qiantang District, require students to "not be too forced to complete their homework", "allow postponement of submission", and "allow postponement of completion". In addition, although Yancheng in Jiangsu Province and Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai Province have not explicitly proposed "deferred delivery of homework" or "allowed to postpone submission and make up for it", they have also set a lower limit: students shall not be criticized or punished on the grounds that their summer homework has not been completed, or students shall be delayed from registering normally.

The highlight of Chengdu this time is that the Municipal Education Bureau issued a unified regulation and clarified the time limit for deferred payment, which can allow more students to enjoy the benefits of deferred payment, and also allow schools to have a reference for implementation and standards.

Some people are worried that with the "homework deadline", will it condone some students' procrastination in learning, so that they will not complete their homework on time in the future? This concern is slightly unnecessary. The "homework deferred deadline" is not to encourage students to break the rules and develop bad study habits, but to advocate more consideration of students' individual differences within a reasonable range, encourage students to give more understanding and tolerance, awaken their correct attitude towards homework and learning, stimulate their interest and motivation in learning, and overcome fear, anxiety and rejection.

This is inseparable from the cooperation and assistance of relevant systems. In addition to the "postponement of homework delivery", Chengdu has also proposed a series of measures: the first week of school is the "school adaptation period", and the registration time on the first day can be extended to 9:30;Except for the third year of high school, *** and tests are not allowed to be held within two weeks after the start of school; Organize and carry out physical and mental health screening of all students within 2 weeks after the start of school; Strictly implement the provisions of the "double reduction" policy on the form of homework and the time limit for completion of primary and secondary school students, strengthen the overall management of homework, strictly control the total amount of written homework, and improve the quality of homework design.

This set of combination punches is enough to ensure that the good intention of "deferred delivery of work" is not discounted and impartially fulfilled.
