I believe that after the news of Singapore's 30-day visa-free release, many friends can't wait to travel to Singapore

But Xinran had to pour some cold water on everyone's head, did the arrival card declare? Did you buy a return ticket? Has the passport expiration date been confirmed?

Electronic Arrival Card Declaration.

Chinese nationals are exempt from visa requirements when entering Singapore, but they still need to go through immigration procedures. Within 72 hours prior to arrival in Singapore, travellers are required to complete an e-Arrival Card. In order to avoid unnecessary trouble, please be careful not to fill in the card too early or too late.

Assuming you plan to arrive in Singapore at 11am on 11 February 2024, you can fill out your e-Arrival Card after 11am on 8 February at the earliest. If it is found that the e-Arrival Card has not been filled out at the time of entry, it will need to be filled out on-site, which may delay the customs clearance time.

It should not be overlooked that it is important to fill in the correct information, otherwise it may be blocked or further reviewed. In addition, it is free to fill out the Singapore Electronic Arrival Card.

Buy a return ticket.

Before entering Singapore visa-free, there is one important thing to note: prepare a round-trip ticket, i.e. buy a return ticket.

Although China and Singapore have only announced the time and who will be eligible for the visa-free policy, and have not announced the detailed requirements, we can speculate based on the existing ways of applying for a visa in Singapore.

When applying for a Singapore visa, detailed travel arrangements, including round-trip flight booking information and hotel booking information, are usually requested. This will help to ensure that the itinerary is organized in a reasonable manner and is consistent with the itinerary stated on the application form.

Although you do not need to apply for a Singapore visa to enter Singapore without a visa, there are still other immigration procedures that need to be followed. Therefore, in order to avoid unnecessary trouble, it is recommended that you purchase a round-trip ticket before entering Singapore without a visa.

Doing so can provide additional proof that the length of your planned stay in Singapore is reasonable and that you have plans to return to your place of origin. Purchasing a round-trip ticket is also a way to prove your legitimate purpose and intentions.

Therefore, in order to travel to Singapore with peace of mind, we strongly recommend that you purchase a return ticket before entering Singapore visa-free. This ensures that your entry goes smoothly and meets the requirements of Singapore's entry policy.

Passport expiration date.

There is another important thing to note before preparing to travel to Singapore: make sure that your passport is valid for at least more than 6 months.

According to Singapore's entry requirements, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months before leaving the country. In other words, the date you end your trip and return home should be before the expiration date indicated on your passport.

So, double-check your passport validity before committing to travel to Singapore. If the validity period is less than 6 months, then you will not be able to leave the country.

Please note that this refers to the expiration date, not the total validity of the passport. For example, if your passport expires after one year, but you plan to return home 7 months after the end of your trip, your passport is still eligible.

If you don't have a passport, or if your passport is about to expire, then you should get a replacement as soon as possible. Finding out that your passport has been cancelled or cannot be used before you leave can cause trouble for your trip to Singapore. An otherwise planned pleasant trip may be limited to a day trip to the airport.

Therefore, it is important to ensure that your passport is valid for more than 6 months to ensure that your departure goes smoothly and that you are able to enjoy the full Singapore travel experience.

Don't bring too much cash.

Singapore also has a requirement that cash exceeding S$20,000 (or its equivalent in foreign currency) must be declared regardless of whether it is leaving or entering the country. If you don't declare it truthfully, it's illegal!

In June 2023, Komori entered Singapore with about S$3 million in cash on two occasions, but when he declared, he said he only carried about S$1.16 million.

In the end, he failed to escape the eyes of Singapore Customs, and Komori was fined S$30,000.

Previously, there was also a Thai Internet celebrity who brought more than S$20,000 in cash to Singapore and entered Singapore.

Unexpectedly, as soon as I entered the country, I was discovered by the immigration bureau**, confiscated my passport, and invited into the "little black house".

But for China's small partners, this rule is basically not illegal. Because Chinese law stipulates that:

1.The limit of RMB per person for Chinese citizens and foreigners is 20,000 yuan per person.

2.If you are carrying foreign currency, the amount is less than 5,000 US dollars (inclusive), you do not need to apply for a "Carrying Permit", and the customs will release it.

These nominal amounts are all within the S$20,000 (about 100,000 RMB) stipulated in Singapore.

What to bring into Singapore.

In addition, Singapore has strict rules on what to bring when entering the country, so please pay attention to the following:

Firstly, for processed food, a maximum of 5kg or 5 litres of goods with a total value of up to S$100 per person can be carried.

These include food items like potato chips, cheese, cereal, flour, etc. Fresh fruits, vegetables and frozen cooked crab and shrimp are limited to a maximum of 2 kg per person.

In addition, each person can bring up to 5 kg of other raw seafood products, including various fish, raw shrimp, abalone and sea cucumber.

However, there are some items that are absolutely forbidden to be brought into the country.

In terms of food, fresh eggs, beef and processed foods containing beef (e.g. beef jerky and beef balls), processed mutton, pork and poultry (e.g. mutton skewers and canned meat) are prohibited.

In terms of tobacco and alcohol, it is forbidden to bring snuff, hookah, electronic cigarettes, smokeless cigars, smokeless cigarettes, chewing tobacco, imitation tobacco products and nicotine products.

In other categories, it is forbidden to bring chewing gum, animal products, fireworks, agricultural and sideline products, fruits, medicinal herbs, pistols and other items into Singapore.

To emphasise, breaching these regulations is strictly prohibited, and in order to avoid unnecessary trouble, it is important to understand and comply with the relevant entry regulations of Singapore. Before you plan to bring in your belongings, it is advisable to consult the official guidelines of Singapore Customs to ensure that your baggage is compliant and arrives at its destination without any problems.

Self-service customs clearance in Singapore.

All the above preparations have been completed, and you can enter Singapore with peace of mind!

Starting in 2024, Singapore has launched an automated customs clearance system, and eligible travelers only need to provide their passports and scan their faces to enter the country smoothly.

Currently, Chinese passport holders who want to use the self-service customs clearance system need to meet one of the following conditions:

1.Chinese citizens over the age of 6 who hold a Singapore multiple-entry visa for 5 years or more and have visited Singapore at least 3 times in the past 12 months can register with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority free of charge;

2.Chinese nationals who hold permanent resident status, a valid work permit and a long-term pass and have their fingerprints registered with the Singapore** department.

However, at present, China and Singapore have only announced the time and applicable groups of visa exemptions, and have not announced the details of automatic border clearance. Therefore, we are not yet sure whether Chinese passport holders can enjoy the convenience of automatic customs clearance. Please pay attention to official news and notices before entering the country to understand the latest specific regulations.

Singapore's automated immigration system is a new technology introduced to improve the efficiency and convenience of passenger entry, but the details of the implementation are yet to be announced.

For more information on self-service clearance, you can contact the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore or the Embassy or Consulate.
