He joined the Communist Party of China twice, served as Zhang Xueliang's secretary, and made outstanding contributions to the War of Resistance Against Japan.

In 1995, Guo Weicheng died of illness in Beijing at the age of 83. For 60 years of his life, he struggled for two goals: one was to hope that Zhang Xueliang would regain his freedom, and the other was to hope that the motherland could achieve reunification.

Although he dedicated his life to this, these two wishes were ultimately not fulfilled. He had prepared for the worst and wanted to rescue Zhang Xueliang. Guo Weicheng was born in 1912 into a wealthy family in Liaoning Province.

After graduating from junior high school at the age of 15, he left his hometown to study at the high school affiliated to Northeastern University in Shenyang, during which he was influenced by advanced ideas, actively participated in anti-Japanese propaganda activities, and established close ties with the underground party of the Chinese Communist Party.

Later, Guo Weicheng entered Fudan University, joined the Communist Youth League, and became a member of the middle school.

Guo Weicheng lost contact with the organization because he was imprisoned by the Kuomintang many times, and later became Zhang Xueliang's confidential secretary under the recommendation of Wang Zhuoran, the secretary of Northeastern University.

At the beginning, Guo Weicheng was responsible for translating English newspapers and magazines for Zhang Xueliang, and his fluency in English and ancient Chinese attracted Zhang Xueliang's attention. Zhang Xueliang felt that Guo Weicheng had great potential, so he promoted him to the secretary of the major, responsible for the work of publishing news.

In those sullen days, Zhang Xueliang was distressed because he was given the title of "General of Non-Resistance". The only way he found relief was to play tennis.

Whenever this happens, he always thinks of Guo Weicheng. This made Guo Weicheng Zhang Xueliang's confidant and friend. Before the Xi'an incident, Guo Weicheng had already made contact with the party organization.

But because he could not prove that he was already a member of the Communist Party, he could not rejoin the party for the time being. However, Guo Weicheng secretly did a lot of work to promote the common resistance against Japan.

At this time, Guo Weicheng also noticed that Zhang Xueliang's political views had undergone great changes due to his contacts with the Chinese Communists, especially in the debate with Chiang Kai-shek on the viewpoint of "first seizing the outside world and then securing the interior" or "first securing the interior and then the outside".

Until December 12, 1936, Zhang Xueliang launched the "Xi'an Incident" that shocked China and the world.

After serving by Zhang Xueliang's side for many years, Guo Weicheng deeply felt Zhang Xueliang's affection and righteousness, and was full of admiration for him. Therefore, when Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned, the idea of rescue came to his heart.

But considering that he is Zhang Xueliang's confidential secretary and the only cronie of Zhang Xueliang at the current Northeast Army Headquarters, he is worried that he will be treated as a hostage once he goes to Chongqing. In order to prepare for the worst, he evacuated his family and firmly embarked on the road to Chongqing.

After a month-long journey, he finally arrived in Chongqing. He stood in front of Chiang Kai-shek, hoping to find out Zhang Xueliang's whereabouts from him. However, Chiang Kai-shek was unusually cunning and kept avoiding the topic, even trying to win over Guo Weicheng.

Guo Weicheng and the Northeast elders kept discussing how to rescue Zhang Xueliang, but they never found a solution, and they didn't know Zhang Xueliang's whereabouts, so they could only return disappointed.

Later, Guo Weicheng learned that some careerists within the Northeast Army had begun to fight, and Chiang Kai-shek seized the opportunity to disintegrate the Northeast Army, and the only possibility of rescuing Zhang Xueliang also disappeared.

In order to prevent Chiang Kai-shek from using the secret telegrams and codebooks exchanged between Zhang Xueliang and the CCP, Guo Weicheng and Zhao Qixia (Miss Zhao Si) destroyed them together.

When the Xi'an Incident broke out, Chiang Kai-shek wrote a will, which contained important telegram manuscripts and instructions for previous negotiations with Japan, into two suitcases and tried to take them away. Although he failed to help Zhang Xueliang escape the predicament, Guo Weicheng did not give up.

In 1942, he actively responded to the call of Chang Enduo, a special member of the Communist Party of China in the Northeast Army, and successfully led the troops to revolt and return to the organization.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the whole of China was immersed in an atmosphere of joy, and Zhang Xueliang excitedly wrote the four characters "Dongshan Comeback" on a red silk, hoping to send it to the senior generals of the former Northeast Army through relationships.

However, when Dai Li learned of this, he immediately reported it to Chiang Kai-shek, causing Chiang Kai-shek to be furious and secretly sent Zhang Xueliang to Taiwan. Guo Weicheng and the CCP have been trying their best to rescue them, but they have not been able to reverse the situation.

This matter has always haunted Guo Weicheng's heart and has become a knot in his heart that is difficult to untie. Finally, after the reform and opening up, ** began to ease, coupled with the fading of the Jiang family's power, the Taiwan authorities' supervision of Zhang Xueliang was also loosened.

In 1988, a group of Northeastern University alumni and Chinese groups concerned about the situation in China decided to hold a "25th anniversary commemoration of the Xi'an Incident" in the United States, aiming to speak out for the rescue of Zhang Xueliang.

Guo Weicheng, a member of the mainland Communist Party, was the only representative invited because of his outstanding talent. At that time, Guo Weicheng's daughter was studying in New York, and when she learned that her father would also go to New York to participate in activities, she designed a series of New York excursion plans for her father, but Guo Weicheng politely declined.

He told his daughter that his trip was only to fight for Zhang Xueliang's complete freedom. Over the next 20 days, Guo Weicheng made the most of various opportunities to work hard, trying to find a breakthrough through interpersonal relationships.

After the meeting, Guo Weicheng went to Los Angeles to visit Zhang Xueliang's wife, Yu Fengzhi.

Before the Xi'an incident, Yu Fengzhi was accompanying his children studying in the UK. After learning that Zhang Xueliang planned the incident, she immediately called Song Ziwen and begged him to do his best to protect Zhang Xueliang's life and return to China immediately.

For the next four years, Yu Fengzhi stayed by Zhang Xueliang's side, although they moved from place to place, and her body was severely damaged by long-term fear and turbulence.

In 1940, Yu Fengzhi was diagnosed with breast cancer. According to the level of medical care at that time, she felt that her life had come to an end and was very sad.

Under the persuasion of Song Meiling, she decided to go to the United States**. However, Yu Fengzhi did not expect that this departure would change her life forever.

After Yu Fengzhi recovered from illness in the United States, Zhang Xueliang was forced to divorce him because of the Xi'an Incident. Despite this, Yu Fengzhi still said: "As long as it is Hanqing's matter, I support it unconditionally, and I am willing to do whatever I am asked to do." ”

In his later years, Yu Fengzhi lived alone in a white villa in Los Angeles, with the young Zhang Xueliang** on the table. Although she is 90 years old and frail, she is still full of expectations, and when she sees the Filipino maid taking care of her, she happily says, "I finally hope that my relatives in the motherland have come." ”

Although a long time has passed since the separation with Zhang Xueliang, Yu Fengzhi still remembers Guo Weicheng clearly, she looked at Guo Weicheng's face, and said slowly: "I remember that you are the secretary of the young marshal." ”

They began to reminisce about the past time, talking about Miss Zhao Si, Yu Fengzhi said tolerantly: "I really didn't expect that 50 years have passed in a blink of an eye, and Zhao Qixia's contribution to the Zhang family cannot be ignored, this is really not easy!" ”

When Guo Weicheng was about to return to China, he went to visit Yu Fengzhi and confided in her his plans, Yu Fengzhi said resolutely: "I must go back, I want to return to our motherland with Han Qing." ”

However, fate was ruthless, Yu Fengzhi passed away in 1990, and he never had the opportunity to see Zhang Xueliang again, nor did he have the opportunity to set foot on the land of the motherland again.

In the year of Feng Zhi's death, Zhang Xueliang, who had been under house arrest for half a century, finally gained a short period of freedom in the opportunity to visit relatives in the United States. He immediately invited Guo Weicheng and others to come to the United States to attend his birthday banquet, but unfortunately, Guo Weicheng was unable to attend.

In 1995, with an unfulfilled wish, Guo Weicheng passed away.
