Bremer was one of the greatest defenders in the history of German football, playing as a left-back or left-midfielder as a player, and was considered one of the best set-piece takers in the world at the time.
Bremer was born in Hamburg on 9 November 1960 and began his football career with his hometown club Ullenhorst. As a player, Bremer played for Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Zaragoza, winning the Bundesliga title in 1987 and 1998 and the Serie A title in 1989. The pinnacle of his club career was spent at Inter Milan, where he formed the Megatron Apennines troika with compatriots Mateus and Jurgen Klinsmann.
In the national team, Bremer has made 86 appearances for the national team and has played three World Cups with Germany. In three World Cups, he left an impressive record of 16 appearances and four goals.
The highlight of his career for the national team was the 1990 World Cup final. Worrall was tripped by an Argentine defender after rushing into the box with the ball, and Germany were awarded a penalty. Bremer was under tremendous pressure and eventually found the back of the net in Goyechea's goal to help his team win the World Cup.
In 1992, Bremer moved to La Liga side Real Zaragoza and returned to Kaiserslautern one season later. In 1998, Bremer announced his retirement after Kaiserslautern created the "Kaiserslautern Miracle" that won the Bundesliga title as a promoted horse.
