Mrs. Han gave up her seat to Zhang, and Zhang's joke caused death
At 6:22 p.m. on September 3, 1932, the crowd and noise of Jinan Railway Station were instantly broken by three gunshots. The train station was in chaos and people fled.
In the midst of the chaotic crowd, one was one meter tall.
9. The burly man is particularly conspicuous, he is Zhang Zongchang, the "Emperor of the Soil" who had a very high prestige in Shandong a few years ago, and he was also the target of this assassination.
Zhang Zongchang's attack is closely related to his words with Han Fuyu. So, what did he say that led to his death? Faced with the pursuit of multiple assassins, can Zhang Zongchang successfully escape?
Zhang Zongchang, a native of Ye County, Shandong, took his mother to Yingkou in Northeast China at the age of 15 to work hard due to his poor family background. He lacked education, mingled with a gang of thieves and pickpockets in his youth, and even reduced to the point of being a bandit.
Later, by chance, he came to Tsarist Russia, and eventually settled in Vladivostok, near the northeast.
In this city, there is a large Chinese population, and in order to better manage, Tsarist Russia** hired many Chinese policemen. Although Zhang Zongchang did not have much education, he was burly and tall, and he was favored by the police department at a glance, and since then he has become a Chinese policeman.
Zhang Zongchang is quite kind-hearted, and he is athletic, and he has gradually established a reputation in the Chinese police circle, everyone will ask him for help when there is something, and even ** people will give him some face.
After the outbreak of the Xinhai Revolution, the revolutionaries extensively recruited talents, broke through geographical restrictions, cooperated with the Northeast and Far East, and successfully recruited a team composed of horse thieves, Chinese police and cavalry.
Zhang Zongchang was also able to return to Shanghai in the process and serve as the head of this team. However, during the Second Revolution, Zhang Zongchang showed a shrewd ability to assess the situation and turned to Feng Guozhang, a general of the Beiyang warlords, in order to improve his status.
In 1921, Zhang Zongchang led his troops to invade Jiangxi, but suffered a heavy defeat in a fierce battle with Chen Guangyuan, the overseer of Jiangxi, and his subordinates were exhausted, causing Zhang Zongchang to lose his foothold.
He originally planned to take refuge in Cao Kun, but the generals under Cao Kun were very resistant to Zhang Zongchang, who was born as a bandit, and in desperation, Zhang Zongchang could only leave Jiangxi gloomily and fled to the northeast to seek refuge with Zhang Zuolin and his son.
Zhang Zongchang started a new journey in the Feng department. His initial position was only that of an empty commander of a military police battalion with a limited number of soldiers. However, a turning point changed his fate.
At that time, the Jilin Army and the Hu bandits joined forces to attack Zhang Zuolin. Although the size of the enemy army was not large, Zhang Zuolin had just lost in the Zhifeng War and did not have enough troops to mobilize, so he sent Zhang Zongchang to meet the battle.
Surprisingly, most of the bandit Lu Yonggui's subordinates were Zhang Zongchang's fellow Kwantung villagers, and many of them were his younger brothers in their early years. Because of this relationship, Zhang Zongchang persuaded the enemy army in a few words and incorporated the three bandit regiments into his own troops.
After learning the news, Zhang Zuolin was very happy and promoted him to be the guard of Suining Town, Jilin Province, and Zhang Zongchang once again gained a stable position.
Zhang Zongchang performed heroically in the Second Zhifeng War and won many military exploits. However, the Jiangsu region he had always longed for was occupied by others, so he could only lead his subordinates in the direction of Xuzhou, and in April 1925, he entered Shandong and assumed the post of overseer of Shandong Province.
For the next three years, Zhang Zongchang remained in Shandong.
With no one to restrain him, Zhang Zongchang's true face gradually emerged, and he began his life as the "soil emperor" in Shandong. The people of Shandong only have three words to evaluate him: "I don't know".
They did not know how many men his army had, how much wealth he had, and how many concubines he had. This is because Zhang Zongchang is very famous for his banditry behavior, which attracts many bandits and robbers to join his ranks, making his power grow day by day.
At the same time, Zhang Zongchang had a great greed for money and beauty, on the one hand, he was expropriating, and on the other hand, he ordered people to search for beautiful women for him. Zhang Zongchang thus became the "Demon King of the Mixed World" in the eyes of the people of Shandong.
Zhang Zongchang's perverse behavior did not last long. In May 1928, he was defeated by the Northern Expeditionary Army and fled to the Hebei region. The following month, Zhang Zuolin was killed by the Japanese, Zhang Zongchang was extremely angry about this, he wanted to avenge Zhang Zuolin, and wrote a letter asking Zhang Xueliang to lead troops out of the customs.
However, Zhang Zongchang still had 50,000 soldiers and horses in his hands, and Zhang Xueliang was worried that once he was out of the customs, Zhang Zongchang would take the opportunity to replace him, so he refused his request. Zhang Zongchang had nowhere else to go but to hold out in the eastern part of Hebei, and in September the Kuomintang army of Bai Chongxi arrived and soon surrounded him.
Zhang Zongchang had a premonition that the general trend was gone, and quietly fled to Dalian in a small fishing boat. However, Zhang Zongchang was not safe, because Chiang Kai-shek issued an order to hunt him down, and in order to avoid disaster, he had to go east to Japan to seek refuge.
Although Zhang Zongchang tried to make a comeback many times with the support of the Japanese, he failed repeatedly. After the 918 Incident, the Northeast became the target of Japanese aggression, and Zhang Xueliang led the Northeast Army to retreat into the Guannei to defend it.
Zhang Xueliang was deeply afraid that Zhang Zongchang would become a traitor to the Japanese, and with his understanding of the Northeast region, it would bring disaster to the Northeast Army. Although Zhang Zongchang has always wanted to return to China, he has not succeeded.
Until Zhang Xueliang sent an invitation, Zhang Zongchang gladly accepted. So, at the beginning of 1932, he returned to Beijing.
At the critical juncture of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Zhang Xueliang, in his capacity as "deputy commander of the army, navy, and air force," summoned the generals of North China to gather in Beijing to discuss the anti-Japanese plan.
Through Shi Yousan's introduction, Zhang Zongchang got acquainted with Han Fuyu, then chairman of Shandong Province, at the meeting. After the two talked, they felt that they hated seeing each other late. In the end, under the mediation of Shi Yousan, Han Fuyu, Zhang Zongchang, Zhang Xueliang, Yu Xuezhong and others married Jin Lan on the spot and became friends of eight worships.
Zhang Zongchang is nine years older than Han Fuyu, and after the two became brothers, Zhang Zongchang no longer put on a show, and always regarded himself as the eldest brother, calling Han Fuyu "elder brother". Han Fuyu didn't care at first, but Zhang Zongchang's words after a drink made him feel guilty.
Brother, many of my men are still idle in the cave, and if I say hello, they will immediately form a team. The speaker was unintentional, the listener was intentional, this was Zhang Zongchang's drunken words, but he was unexpectedly remembered by Han Fuyu.
Han Fuyu held the cave in his hand, and Zhang Zongchang's words made him pause and began to think about its authenticity. When Zhang Zongchang sat in the cave, he had 100,000 soldiers and horses, and after the defeat, he lost about 30,000, and the remnants of 50,000 were incorporated into Bai Chongxi's command, which means that more than 20,000 people are still missing.
Does Zhang Zongchang really have plans to make a comeback? Han Fuyu expressed his appreciation for Zhang Zongchang's speech on the surface, but he began to have doubts in his heart.
Zhang Xueliang invited the brothers to watch the play, and several people booked a private room. During the intermission, Zhang Zongchang suddenly visited Han Fuyu's box, and seeing this, Ji Ganqing got up to give up his position, and Zhang Zongchang sat down unceremoniously.
Han Fuyu took Zhang Zongchang's nest in Shandong, but Zhang Zongchang in turn sarcastically mocked him for taking his wife's nest, which made Han Fuyu's heart tighten, worried that Zhang Zongchang would return to Shandong.
Thinking of this, Han Fuyu decided to pay for his life, "Since you want to fight with me, I'll let you die!" He thought viciously. The original brotherhood came to naught at this moment.
After the military meeting, Han Fuyu returned to Jinan and began to secretly plan the assassination of Zhang Zongchang. After careful consideration, he decided to trick Zhang Zongchang into coming to Shandong first, because it was easier to start on his own turf.
Therefore, he entrusted Sun Chuanfang's old subordinate Lu Dianchen to personally go to Beiping to deliver a letter and invite Zhang Zongchang to Jinan to "discuss the plan".
After Zhang Zongchang received the news, his heart was full of excitement. His original intention of returning to China was to hope to rise again, and he originally expected Zhang Xueliang to help him as the deputy commander-in-chief of the army, navy and air force, but Zhang Xueliang did not give him any military rights, and only gave him 80,000 yuan a month for living expenses.
After half a year, Zhang Zongchang saw Zhang Xueliang's mind clearly and knew that if he stayed here, he would not have any chance. Now, he received an invitation from Han Fuyu, and hope was rekindled in his heart, hoping to take this opportunity to return to Ludi and recover his old department.
Jin Shouchang and Xu Xiaolou, two henchmen, questioned Zhang Zongchang's trip to Shandong. They were worried that Han Fuyu's motives were not pure, because he had always played with power and was not trustworthy.
However, Zhang Zongchang didn't care, he said boldly: "We have become brothers, if he really wants to harm me, then what face will he have in the future?" ”
Jin Shouchang reminded: "Han Fuyu has never been a friend, and in the past, he was promoted from a small soldier to a military commander, all thanks to Feng Yuxiang's support. The two of them once married Jin Lan, and Feng Yuxiang even gave him the position of chairman of Henan Province.
However, due to some disputes, Han Fuyu finally betrayed Feng Yuxiang and took refuge with Chiang Kai-shek. We must not take this lightly. ”
Zhang Zongchang's counterattack from a thief to the "soil emperor" of Shandong proves that he is not a simple character. However, under the circumstances at that time, he had no other choice but to take refuge in Han Fuyu.
He knew that the adventure could be dangerous, but he decided to give it a go. He believes that there is no smooth sailing for those who have achieved great things in ancient and modern times, and he went this time just to contact his feelings, and he believes that Han Fuyu will not kill him easily.
Zhang Zongchang sticks to his beliefs and bravely moves into the future.
When the two subordinates tried to use words to persuade Zhang Zongchang to abandon his dangerous plan, they found his mother, Zhu, who was known for his filial piety. They hoped that Zhu's persuasion would influence Zhang Zongchang's decision, but to their surprise, Zhang Zongchang ignored his mother's words, and even blamed his mother for her ignorance of such a major matter.
Although Zhu was not familiar with the warlord struggle, she heard that her son's trip might be risky, so she still went to ask Zhang Xueliang, Sun Chuanfang and others for help and persuasion.
The next day, Sun Chuanfang and Wu Peifu rushed together to try to dispel Zhang Zongchang's idea of going south, and then Zhang Xueliang also rushed here. Zhang Xueliang knew Zhang Zongchang's intentions, looked at him deeply, and said earnestly: "I know you want to make a comeback, but the time is not yet ripe, if you hold on for a while, I will definitely help you!"
It's too dangerous to go to Han Fuyu. In order to appease Zhang Zongchang, Zhang Xueliang even pleaded with Chiang Kai-shek, hoping that he would revoke Zhang Zongchang's arrest. Under Zhang Xueliang's guarantee, Zhang Zongchang's mind immediately changed, and the trip to Shandong was canceled because of this.
Although everyone thought that the overall situation had been decided, Han Fuyu, who was not dead, sent a telegram again, saying: "Regarding the matter of contacting the old department and reorganizing the team, everything is subject to my brother's advice." ”
After receiving the telegram, Zhang Zongchang once again fell into contradictions. On the one hand, he was moved by the sincerity shown in Han Fuyu's letter; On the other hand, he was more inclined to return to Shandong immediately and incorporate the old ministry than Zhang Xueliang's future assistance.
In the end, Zhang Zongchang still made the decision to go south. In order to prevent others from obstructing him again, he didn't reveal any news, and quietly asked the attendants around him to buy a train ticket to Jinan, and rushed to Han Fuyu's territory at night.
During his trip to Jinan, Zhang Zongchang was warmly received by Han Fuyu, but his life was secretly in danger of being assassinated. However, before Han Fuyu could act, a telegram from Beijing sent Zhang Zongchang back to Beiping.
It turned out that Zhang Xueliang and others were very worried after learning that Zhang Zongchang had gone south, so they pretended that Zhu had a sudden cerebral hemorrhage and was being rescued in a German hospital, hoping that he could go back immediately. As a result, Zhang Zongchang could only return to Beiping, while Han Fuyu was worried about letting the tiger return to the mountain, so he advanced his assassination plan and prepared to do it at the train station.
Zhang Zongchang was assassinated at the train station at 5 p.m. on September 3. Han Fuyu prepared a car for him, and Shi Yousan and other important officials of the Shandong army also went to the railway station to see him off.
On the surface, Han Fuyu's move was to give Zhang Zongchang enough face, but in fact, he wanted to create the illusion that he had nothing to do with the assassination in this way. Zhang Zongchang shook hands with everyone on the platform and said goodbye to everyone one by one, and was very satisfied with this trip to Shandong.
However, the moment he turned to enter the waiting hall, an assassination attempt against him quickly began.
At 6:22 p.m., a train bound for Beiping slowly stopped at Pukou. Zhang Zongchang got into the car smoothly, but just three minutes before the departure, he was about to wave goodbye to everyone when an assassin suddenly appeared in the crowd and shouted: "Zhang Zongchang, I will kill you bastard!" ”
Seeing this, Zhang Zongchang immediately hid in the dining car next to him, and subconsciously touched his right hand into his arms, but found that his hand was empty. Only then did he remember that he had given his beloved gun to Shi Yousan at yesterday's banquet.
Zhang Zongchang fled in a panic in the dining car, and the assassins gave him hot pursuit. An adjutant briefly blocked the Assassin, giving Zhang Zongchang a chance to jump out of the car. However, as soon as he got out of the car, he was attacked by another assassin and the bullet grazed him.
Despite his injuries, Zhang Zongchang continued to run forward, followed by his guards. However, the Assassins at the station appeared one after another, and in the dense gunfire, the guards fell one after another, some sacrificed, and some fled.
The Assassins continued to chase after Zhang Zongchang.
When Zhang Zongchang tried to escape to the stock road in Taipei, he encountered an insurmountable obstacle - bullets. A bullet hit him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground instantly.
Then, two Assassins behind him quickly ran up to him and gave him a deadly shot. In the end, Zhang Zongchang's life came to an end. After his death, a young Assassin stepped forward and announced in a loud voice: "I am Zheng Jicheng, the son of Zheng Jinsheng, and I killed Zhang Zongchang to avenge my father." ”
After saying that, he put down the gun in his hand and quietly waited for the arrival of the law enforcement team and the military police.
After learning the news of Zhang Zongchang's killing, the crowd at the station instantly calmed down from panic and gathered to watch. This "demon king of the mixed world", who has bullied the people of Shandong for three years, has finally received his due retribution.
Curses and accusations against Zhang Zongchang continued to be heard in the crowd. When Zhang Zongchang's adjutant offered to pay 50 yuan to find someone to help carry the body, none of the onlookers were willing to help, which fully illustrated Zhang Zongchang's bad image in the hearts of the people of Shandong.
With the intervention of the law enforcement team, Cheng Kai-shing was imprisoned because he was solely responsible for all crimes. He insisted that he was avenging his father, and did not mention Han Fuyu at all. After investigation, the law enforcement team found that Zheng Jicheng's father did die at the hands of Zhang Zongchang.
Therefore, it is difficult for even a discerning person to blame Han Fuyu for the suspicion again.
Zhang Zongchang gradually rose from a thief to the overseer of Shandong, thanks to his bravery, tenacity and skill in combat. However, in the period of frequent wars and warlords, he did not choose to defend his family and country, but indulged in luxury and erosion, and brutalized the people.
This behavior undoubtedly foreshadowed his defeat and doomed him to a tragic end.
