Italian D-League side As Ostia Mare is the latest club to reinvent its visual identity under the patronage of EZETA, and the creative brand has provided them with a brand new kit with its signature style.
Once again, Ezeta draws on Roma's rich history and heritage to turn their unique talents to Ostia Mare, another team in the lower divisions of Italian football. As Ostia Mare, based in Ostia, a division of Roma, Lazio, currently plays in the Serie A. Their home and away kits are purple and red and are inspired by the mosaics of Bacchus and Ariadne, while the third and fourth kits are inspired by the Municipal Palace of Ostia.
The collaboration between the brand and the club began with a redesign of the club's emblem, as often happens with EZETA's creative direction. This was again done with the help of designer Dan Norris, who was involved in the redesign of several of EZETA's club crests.
The new badge is presented as a round shape for a more modern look. Among them, a seagull divides the circle into two parts to contain the full name of the club: "Ostiamare Lido Calcio 1945". White and purple stripes slant according to the direction in which the seagull is flying, providing a more dynamic look.
Then, on the home jersey, Ezeta studied the meaning of the ancient purple (the traditional home color of Ostia Mare) and found a connection with Bacchus, the god of grape harvests. The Archaeological Park of Ostia has a precious mosaic depicting the myth of Bacchus and Ariadne, dating back to the time of Hadrian in 117-138 AD. That's why the new shirt design was inspired by that. The same stencil is also used for the away jersey, which is colored red.
The third and fourth jerseys were inspired by the Municipal Palace of Ostia. Located in the center of Ostia, the Municipal Palace was built between 1924 and 1926. The architect who designed the building was Vincenzo Fasolo, who combined medieval elements with classic Venetian style. Its iconic elements are inspired by Roman mythology: Poseidon (god of the sea); seahorses (mythical sea animals that are half horses and half fish); the Capitoline she-wolf (representing close ties with Rome); Ears of wheat (as Ostia was founded by Ancus Matthews with the intention of becoming an ancient seaport for Rome, importing wheat mainly from all the provinces of the Roman Empire to Rome). As a result, EZETA chose to incorporate all of these elements in order to create the iconic geometric pattern throughout the jersey.
The design template here uses a chest strap, similar to some of Ezeta's shirt templates in the past. The third jersey is the opposite of the home jersey, with white as the base color and purple as the accent color, while the fourth jersey is golden yellow, inspired by the wheat color and the shade of yellow in the courtyards of municipal buildings.
