For the TV series "Flowers", I watched it for the first time and the second time, and some of my views have changed slightly. The first time I watched it, mom, I like it so much, I like everything, it's a bit brainless hahaha, the second time I watched "Prosperous" is no longer blindly blinded by delicacy, and I found that although this drama shows the style of that era, it lacks the necessary reflection and criticism. If a work simply depicts that "life is a beautiful robe", but does not dare to face the reality that "there are lice crawling underneath", then its core is undoubtedly empty.
In the part of the business war, "Flowers" beautifies the primitive accumulation of the first rich class in the barbarian period, and packages its sordid family history as a story of justice and personal struggle. This way of dealing with it completely ignores the tragic fate of ordinary people who are turned over in the tide of this era. In these stories, we don't see an unarmed ordinary person, we can only see the gangsters and each other.
The Great Gatsby, although it also depicts a life of luxury and erosion, is essentially a tragedy. By telling the story of a poor boy's disillusionment with the American dream, this work profoundly reveals the hypocrisy and snobbery of the upper class. However, in "Flowers", it seems that everyone loves Mr. Bao from the bottom of their hearts, looks forward to his appearance, and spreads his story. This narrative, centered on money and individualism, feels a little unrealistic.
In fact, looking at director Wong Kar-wai's previous works, it is not difficult to find that he is better at the inner monologue of male **, rather than the shooting of realistic themes or grand backgrounds. Therefore, the focus of "Flowers" is more on private life, especially the emotional entanglement between Mr. Bao's four daughters. This treatment moralized, romanticized, and mystified the affairs of men and women of the upper classes. In this context, those capital predators who eat people and don't spit out bones have turned into a "footless bird" that can't stop in "The True Story of A Fei" in the dead of night.
In "Flowers", the upper class is portrayed as affectionate, while the lower characters are degraded as despicable, and the small people are portrayed as jealous and despicable. The desire to succeed displayed by Xiao Jiangxi, Mei Ping and others is regarded as a sin. They were punished for not taking the right path, and Mr. Bao did not follow the right path in the world, but the treatment was very different, which seems to be director Wong Kar-wai's clever lighting technology to put on a gorgeous coat for money.
There is still a big difference in my views on the drama "Flowers", although this drama is very good, my views after the second brush may be different from the public's opinion, but it is more rational, this drama is beautiful, but I feel that it lacks a real inside, and there is a certain lack of its literary value. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, everyone's evaluation of the work is subjective, maybe you also have a different opinion on "Flowers". But in any case, we should respect each other's opinions and strive to find those good works that touch our hearts.
