The 60th Army, originated from the Eighth Column of the North China Military Region and reorganized into the 60th Army in February 1949, was an important force of the People's Liberation Army. In the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, although the 60th Army was criticized, from an objective point of view, their achievements are also worthy of recognition.

Despite the fact that in the defeat of the 180 Division, the 60 Army suffered some repercussions, they still persevered in their struggle and contributed to the tranquility of the country and the people.

After the 60th Army underwent changes, it was under the jurisdiction of the East China Military Region after the return of North Korea, and has been stationed in Jiangbei. Until 1976, due to the suggestion of Ding Sheng, commander of the Nanjing Military Region, the army moved to Zhenjiang.

However, this move led to Ding Sheng's dismissal from his post and expulsion from the party due to his military duties. Ding Sheng was transferred to the commander of the Nanjing Military Region in 1973 after swapping with Xu Shiyou. During his tenure in the Nanjing Military Region, in order to strengthen the defense of the Yangtze River estuary, he proposed to transfer the 60th Army to Zhenjiang.

However, Ding Sheng was removed from his post in 1977 and has been under scrutiny ever since.

Ding Sheng's removal from office was mainly related to the "Gang of Four", and he was suspected of being involved in their conspiracy. In 1980, ** decided to review the "two cases", and Ding Sheng was one of the defendants, but because he was an accomplice, he did not appear in court.

The indictment of the Special Procuratorate of the Supreme People's Procuratorate described him as follows: "I am most worried about the 60th Army, I cannot mobilize this army, you must be prepared." ”

On July 6, 1982, the Military Procuratorate of the Chinese People's Liberation Army issued a decision against Ding Sheng to waive prosecution. Although he was admitted to the charges in the decision, he was exempted from prosecution because he was an accomplice.

In the decision, there is also a description: "I am ready to kill my head." If the description of the decision book is true, then Ding Sheng's relationship with the "Gang of Four" is very close, and it can even be said that his fate is bound to them.

Ding Sheng was expelled from the party for some reason, forced to leave active duty, and placed in a cadre rest house in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, where he was paid only 150 yuan a month for living expenses, which later rose to 200 yuan.

Although he disagreed with the decision's description of him, he kept writing letters to complain, hoping that the authorities would re-investigate the matter and reinstate him from the party. However, his letters were ignored every time and there was no response.

At one point, Ding Sheng even considered dropping the appeal, believing that it was not important for the organization not to recognize him as a party member, and that he had always considered himself a party member. In the early nineties, with the help of some old friends, Ding Sheng began to write letters and complaints again, but the problem remained unresolved.

In 1998, Ding Sheng was already over eighty years old and felt that his life was coming to an end, so he made up his mind to uncover his historical doubts. He was advised to testify against Xu Jingxian, a member of the "Gang of Four" Shanghai remnants whose testimony had led to Ding Sheng's dismissal.

Ding Sheng wrote a letter to Xu Jingxian, asking him to review the events of that year in a matter-of-fact manner. However, Xu Jingxian did not reply to Ding Sheng, which dashed Ding Sheng's last hope.

Ding Sheng contacted Xu Jingxian through an intermediary named Ye Yonglie, who knew Xu Jingxian's temperament well and knew Ding Sheng's case.

Ye Yonglie once mentioned that only one person has the ability to solve Commander Ding's problem, but unfortunately this person has passed away. After smashing the "Gang of Four", he served as the head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and other positions, responsible for the work of rehabilitating cadres, and successfully rehabilitated many unjust, false and wrongly decided cases.

If Ding Sheng is really wronged, ** should be the only person who can help him. However, *** had already passed away at that time, so Ding Sheng did not resume his party membership until his death.
