On January 27, Beijing time, after a five-day fierce competition, Li Ruilin, a 17-year-old boy sent to the national team by the Huangcun Sports Training Center in Guangdong Province, ranked among the top 10 in the mixed team and women's doubles competitions of the freestyle skiing moguls event of the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games (hereinafter referred to as the "Winter Youth Olympic Games"), and finally ranked 9th in two, setting the best result of the Chinese sports delegation in the freestyle skiing moguls event of the Winter Youth Olympic Games.
The Winter Youth Olympic Games will feature 7 events, 15 sub-events and 81 events, with around 1,900 young athletes from 81 National Olympic Committees participating. The Chinese sports delegation sent teams to participate in 12 sub-events and 50 sub-events in all seven major events. Among them, Li Ruilin is the only athlete trained and transported by Guangdong in the Chinese sports delegation.
It is worth mentioning that Li Ruilin used to be an excellent trampoline athlete, she won the trampoline women's group B team championship in the 15th Guangdong Provincial Games in 2018, and was sent to the national training team through cross-border cross-discipline in the same year. She has won the 2020-2021 National Championship Individual Second Place, the 2022-2023 National Championship Individual Second Place, the 2022-2023 National Championship Double Second Place, and the 2023-2024 National Championship Double Third Place.
Freestyle skiing moguls, also known as cat jumps, require skiers to glide and slalom on slopes dotted with small snow mounds and perform two jumps in the air at high speeds. The site has a complex and continuous small mound and two jumps, the line is 200 meters long, 25 meters wide - 35 meters, and the slope is 24°-32°. The scoring criteria are 60% for turns, 20% for air, and 20% for speed. The scoring criteria for turning mainly focus on the glide curve (i.e., arc), the descent along the maximum incline line, the balance of the upper body and lower limbs, and the ability to control the skis when passing difficult routes or steep slopes. Aerial performance refers to the performance of skills in the air by using the inertia of gliding to lift the body off the ground with the help of a jumping platform. The entire ride requires two aerial jumps, and the same aerial maneuver must not be used.
It is understood that the freestyle skiing moguls project was carried out relatively late in China, and there is still a certain gap in performance compared with the United States, Canada, Japan, France and other powerful countries. At present, China's freestyle skiing moguls has the best Olympic record in the history of women's sports, Ning Qin, who finished 18th in the women's single event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
