Cyclamen, also known as rabbit ear flower or rabbit flower, is sold in large quantities every winter. Due to its flowering time between New Year's Day and Chinese New Year, and the beautiful meaning of the name cyclamen, it has become one of the most popular flowers for the Chinese New Year in recent years. Normally, cyclamen bloom for 5-6 months, from early winter in November to February or March.
I guess most flower friends have raised cyclamen in one time or another, and I myself have raised cyclamen for many years. From the beginning of the flowering period to dry and withered, to now a pot can be raised for many years, and many new seedlings can be reproduced. Today, I would like to share with you some of the precautions for maintaining cyclamen based on my own conservation experience.
Shop Cyclamen:
1.Observe bulbs: Cyclamen is a bulbous plant, and the size of the bulb is directly related to its vitality and flowering potential. Therefore, you should try to choose a larger bulb when purchasing. In addition, the health of the bulbs should be observed, as root rot is one of the main factors contributing to the death of cyclamen. When purchasing, pay attention to check whether the part of the bulb near the soil surface has black rot spots, and if there is, it is best not to buy.
2.Check the leaves: The growth status of the plant can be observed directly from the leaves. Check the condition of the cyclamen leaves, including the presence and location of yellow leaves. Try to choose cyclamen that don't have yellow leaves, some merchants will remove them, but we can tell if this is the case by looking at the roots. If you find that the leaves at the bottom of the roots are sparse and the leaves above the roots are more luxuriant, it is not advisable to buy such a cyclamen.
Freshly bought cyclamen usually have buds that bloom after a few days of keeping them at home. But there are also a few things to be aware of:
1.Avoid sun exposure in the early days: While cyclamen in autumn and winter need sunlight, freshly bought cyclamen should not be exposed to the sun immediately. It should be placed in a place where direct sunlight is not available at home first, so that it can gradually adapt to the temperature and humidity of the home. After about a week, move it to an area with astigmatism for curing. If placed directly in a location with direct exposure to sunlight, cyclamen may lose buds due to drastic changes in light, temperature and humidity, delay flowering, or even dry out.
2.Don't rush to water: Usually, the flowers that are being raised have been properly watered. Therefore, there is no need to rush to water as soon as you buy it. The cyclamen soil is very breathable, so if you don't feel that the pot is particularly light to pick up, then you don't need to water it.
3.Don't be in a hurry to change pots: if the flowering plants don't need to be replaced, the same goes for cyclamen. Since most of the cyclamen purchased during this season come with buds, don't rush to change the pots. If you feel that the original plastic flower pot is not good-looking, you can put a beautiful outer flower pot to decorate, and wait for the end of this round of flowering to consider whether to replace the flower pot.
Cyclamen flowers prefer warm, moist and semi-shaded growing environments. When potting plants, you should choose soil with good air permeability and good drainage to maintain the healthy growth of roots.
Cyclamen grows in a variety of environments:
Temperature: Cyclamen grows at a temperature of 15-25 and is protected from exposure to cold air or excessive heat.
Light: Cyclamen prefers a semi-shady environment, protected from direct sunlight to avoid burning the leaves. At the same time, a certain amount of light is also needed to ensure normal photosynthesis.
Moisture: Keeping the soil moist is key to the growth of cyclamen. During the growing period, regular watering is required, but it is necessary to avoid standing water so as not to cause root rot.
Daily maintenance points:
Watering: Adjust the watering frequency according to the season and weather conditions. In spring and summer, water evaporates quickly, and the number of watering needs to be increased; In autumn and winter, it is necessary to reduce watering to avoid frost damage caused by excessive moisture.
Fertilization: Cyclamen needs adequate nutrients during its growing season. You can choose well-rotted organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer and apply it once a month to ensure the healthy growth of the plant.
Pruning: Prune yellow or overly dense branches and leaves regularly to keep the plants aesthetically pleasing and airy. At the same time, remove the weak flowers in time to promote the opening of new flowers.
Common problems and solutions:
Yellowing of leaves: It can be caused by too much or too little watering, insufficient light, etc. It is necessary to adjust the watering frequency and light conditions to maintain a suitable growing environment.
Flower withering: Flower withering is the natural growth process of cyclamen flowers. After the flowers wither, remove the residual flowers in time and replenish nutrients to promote the opening of new flowers.
Root rot: usually caused by overwatering or poor soil drainage. It is necessary to replace the well-drained soil in time and adjust the watering frequency to avoid water accumulation.
Caring for cyclamen flowers requires patience and care. With the right care for them, your bonsai cyclamen flowers are sure to bloom at their most beautiful flowers.
