Where does earwax come from

The technical term for earwax is cerumen. The sweat glands in the ears secrete sweat, which mixes with the sebum oil produced by the sebaceous glands. This special mixture picks up debris and dead skin cells as it naturally migrates out of the ear, acting like a conveyor belt that carries waste out of the ear, known as earwax. So it can be said that earwax is a natural cleanser in the human ear.

Do we need to clean our ear canals?

Earwax protects the external ear canal from dirt, insects, bacteria, and other harmful substances. It is also waterproof and keeps the ear canal moist without drying or cracking. Earwax also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Studies have shown that the right amount of earwax can reduce the risk of ear infections such as otitis externa.

The ear canal itself is self-cleaning and in most cases does not require special treatment. Most of the cerumen in the ear canal is also excreted by talking, swallowing, coughing, and jumping, and excessive cleaning is not conducive to the health of the ear canal. The sensation brought by ear plucking will make a large number of participants addicted to it and repeatedly pluck their ears, which will cause excessive stimulation to the external auditory canal, and even lead to breakage, increasing the risk of inflammation of the external auditory canal.

1. The ear canal does not need to be cleaned so frequently, everything should be done in moderation, suppress the idea of plucking your ears from time to time, and control the little finger you want to put into the ear canal;

2. Be sure to choose a formal institution, or go directly to the otolaryngology department of the hospital to clean the ear canal (especially for people who are born with "oily ears"), the doctor's professional operation and affordable **, as well as the guarantee of health and safety, are also more cost-effective.

3. Wearing headphones and hearing aids for a long time will irritate the ear canal and may also lead to an increase in earwax.
