Paris, January 30 (Xinhua) -- France's National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) announced on January 29 that it has officially launched a national research program aimed at promoting the development of spintronics technology and promoting energy conservation and sustainable development in the digital field.
The program, which was officially launched in the southeastern French city of Grenoble on the 29th, is co-led by the French Alternative Energy and Atomic Energy Commission and the French National Center for Scientific Research, and will receive 38.13 million euros in funding for eight years. It is hoped that this plan will promote the development of spintronic technology in France and help Europe strengthen its competitiveness and digital sovereignty.
According to the French National Centre for Scientific Research, spintronics technology offers a disruptive solution for the development of the digital sphere. Compared to conventional electronics, it takes advantage of features such as the spin of electrons to achieve greater functionality and lower energy consumption.
The energy consumption and environmental impact of the development of the digital realm cannot be ignored. It is believed that by 2030, the digital sector will account for 20% to 30% of global electricity consumption. Therefore, in addition to computing power, miniaturization, cost and other indicators, future electronic devices also need to pay attention to energy efficiency indicators.
