In 1979, the Vietnamese repeatedly violated China's Yunnan border and killed innocent people. In 1984, our army began to regain lost ground in the Battle of Laoshan. However, Wang Bin, deputy instructor of the 1st Battalion of the 118th Regiment of the 14th Army Infantry Division of the 2nd Army, was unfortunately captured in the first battle and suffered inhuman torture for nearly 6 years.

He was the only PLA officer captured in the Battle of Lao Son, so Vietnam subjected him to strict interrogation and custody. He has tried several times to commit suicide and escape from prison, but all of them have been unsuccessful.

It was not until January 19, 1990 that Sino-Vietnamese relations eased, and Wang Bin and four other prisoners of war were repatriated. However, Wang Bin was only 37 kilograms when he returned to China, and he still needs to face the domestic information about him"Treason and defection to the enemy"but fortunately, the trust of the organization allowed him to return to his normal life.

So, how did Wang Bin become a prisoner of war? What inhuman torture has he suffered in the past years? Why did he receive"Treason and defection to the enemy"Such slander?

Next, let's understand the beginning and end of the Battle of Laoshan.

In 1984, in order to defend the security of the country and the people, the squadron decided to counterattack the provocative actions of the Vietnamese army on the Sino-Vietnamese border, thus fighting a war called the "Battle of Lao Son".

Wang Bin, an ordinary soldier from Zoucheng, Shandong Province, participated in the battle in order to fulfill his mission and protect the territorial integrity of the country.

China and Vietnam used to be good brothers, but after the reunification of Vietnam in 1975, they turned around and carried out armed attacks on China. However, in 1979, China launched a self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, protecting the safety of border guards and villagers.

According to statistics, from 1955 to 1975, China provided more than 20 billion yuan in aid to Vietnam, provided guns, ammunition, medical supplies, and sent troops to help Vietnam train soldiers and build defense facilities.

Image source network, there are two main reasons why Vietnam has turned its face with China: first, China's relations with the United States have begun to ease, which makes Vietnam feel uneasy and betrayal; Second, Sino-Soviet relations deteriorated, and the Soviet Union was constantly inciting Vietnam to confront China.

Therefore, Vietnam, as the "little brother" of the Soviet Union, frequently provoked China. However, China's economic assistance to Vietnam was halted because of its actions, and relations between the two sides fell to a freezing point.

In 1978, Vietnam even publicly tore its face and arrested 100,000 overseas Chinese, each of whom had to hand over 12 taels**, otherwise he would be sent to the "reform camp" to work as coolies, and finally tortured to death by the Vietnamese army.

This kind of ungrateful, crossing the river and demolishing the bridge makes our country unbearable. In the People's Campaign, we condemned Vietnam's actions and strongly condemned this kind of "tolerable and intolerable" behavior.

In the 1979 self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, our army won a complete victory in just over 20 days. The war was intended to teach Vietnam a lesson, not to have aggressive intentions.

A few days later, our army withdrew the entire PLA to the country. However, Vietnam was dissatisfied with the outcome of the war, and since the second half of 1979, it has been carrying out burning, killing and looting on our borders.

Therefore, in 1984 the Battle of Laoshan was fought. In the Battle of Lao Son, Wang Bin's 1st Battalion received the order to intersperse operations, and they were first responsible for capturing Heights 76 and 1072, forming an internal and external front, blocking the rear roads of the Vietnamese army, and preventing reinforcements.

In the battle to attack the Lao Son area, the main force of the 1st Battalion marched along Heights 49 and 48, and annihilated the Vietnamese army together with the main force of the 118th Regiment. Originally, the planned route was to cross the border between Heights 80 and 81, but the commander decided that the mountainous terrain would be more conducive to concealment, so the route was temporarily changed.

The commander changed the route from the foot of the hill to the slope of the hill, allowing the 1st Battalion to cross the border between Heights 80 and 59. However, this plan was guessed by the Vietnamese troops, who arranged careful firepower in advance on the interspersed routes of our troops.

Finally, at 6:10 a.m. on April 28, 1984, the middle and rear of the 1st Battalion, which was marching according to the interspersed plan, came under heavy fire from enemy shells.

Wang Bin's 2nd Company suffered heavy losses in the battle, and the entire company was under the control of the Vietnamese army's firepower. Company commander Wang Shitian led the soldiers to move forward bravely, but the artillery shells of the Vietnamese army kept flying from behind, instantly blowing up the 2nd Company to the point of flesh and blood, and scattering limbs.

After passing through the 1214 heights, more than half of the ** of the 2nd company had been killed, the deputy company commander Cong Ming died bravely, and the company commander Wang Shitian and instructor Gao Shaolin were also injured by shells.

In this case, deputy instructor Wang Bin was temporarily appointed as the first company commander, and while organizing the rescue of the wounded, he led the company to continue fighting. Finally, he asked the battalion commander Liu Nianguang for instructions, hoping to take a few soldiers to the battlefield to find and bring back the body of the deputy company commander Cong Ming.

The battalion commander agreed to his request, and Wang Bin led the secretary and the correspondent to bravely go behind enemy lines. They braved the danger in the artillery fire and tried their best to find the body of the deputy company commander.

Unfortunately, however, they met a small detachment of Vietnam on heights 48. When the Vietnamese saw them, they immediately opened fire. The secretary and the correspondent died heroically, and Wang Bin was shot in the leg.

When the Vietnamese army saw the 861 command plane, command flag and telescope on his back, they guessed that he was extraordinary. At the moment when Wang Bin threw the last grenade, the Vietnamese army swarmed up and knocked him out with the butt of his gun.

However, Wang Bin never expected that when he woke up again, he would face what kind of inhuman torture and what kind of human purgatory he would fall into.

After Wang Bin**, he found himself tied to a tree trunk by the Vietnamese army and was being transferred to the enemy camp. He felt extremely humiliated and helpless, and as a soldier, he would rather die on the battlefield than become a prisoner.

However, he was so tightly bound that he couldn't move, and he couldn't even hit the trunk of a tree. He knew what his end would be, and he only wished that a cannonball could end his life.

After a day and a night of trekking, the Vietnamese army took him back to their barracks and put him in prison, tying his legs. When the Vietnamese troops left, they did not take the leggings with them.

Wang Bin dragged the stump leg and approached the leggings step by step, his heart full of despair and helplessness.

Wang Bin attempted to commit suicide with leggings, but was spotted and violently stopped by Vietnamese soldiers, and was subsequently transferred to Hanoi prison, where he was tortured. The Vietnamese army tried to torture him to obtain information about the Chinese People's Liberation Army, but Wang Bin was adamant that he would not reveal any information.

Image source network Wang Bin encountered obstacles on the road to suicide on a hunger strike. The Vietnamese soldiers not only forcibly pried open his mouth and forcibly poured rice soup on him, but also brutally tortured him, humiliating him physically and mentally.

However, the ordeal brought him back to his disillusionment, and he realized that suicide was not the way to solve the problem. Instead, he set out to find a way out of prison.

It took him nearly a year to use his own hands to cut a hole in the prison wall. Despite the blur of flesh and blood on his hands, he felt no pain. Eventually, he managed to escape from prison in July 1987.

Image source network, after Wang Bin escaped from prison, he hoped that the Chinese embassy in Hanoi could lend a hand. But because he has never stepped out of the prison door, he is at a loss for the outside world.

Wang Bin lost his way and exhausted, and was taken back to prison by Vietnamese soldiers. Here he was subjected to even more brutal punishments and beatings. In a dark cell, he spent unimaginable years, until one day, he was pulled out of prison by Vietnamese soldiers.

Along with Wang Bin were Bai Zhili, Jiang Wenda, Liao Furong and Wang Nianshun, all of whom had been tortured to the point of emaciation. Vietnamese soldiers took them to the prisoner of war repatriation ceremony held in China and Vietnam.

On January 19, 1990, after the ceremony, Wang Bin and others were repatriated to the motherland, and 17 Vietnamese soldiers who had been captured by our country were also repatriated.

Wang Bin, a once energetic soldier, is now sick and emaciated. He weighed only 37 kilograms and suffered from stomach bleeding, arthritis and other diseases.

However, for the sake of his health, the organization decided to place him in Nanning, Guangxi to receive **, and after his condition improved, he would be taken back to the 118th regiment and let him be subjected to ** and review there.

In the days after returning to China, Wang Bin has been subjected to gossip and suspicion from the outside world. He has been looking forward to the review of the organization, hoping to clear his name and become a normal person again.

Now, his hopes have finally come true. Why does the outside world suspect that Wang Bin has defected to the enemy**? Because the Vietnamese army spread rumors around our borders that Wang Bin had "surrendered" and falsified evidence of his service to the Vietnamese army.

At the same time, the Vietnamese army also used the captured Chinese civilians to threaten Wang Bin and make him say something unfavorable to our country to our soldiers on the radio. That's why the outside world is skeptical of Wang.

Image source network, the vile behavior of the Vietnamese army is not only aimed at demoralizing our army, but also cruel mental torture of prisoners of war. Wang Bin was forced to do something against his conscience, although he tried to commit suicide many times, but he failed to do so.

Now that he has returned to China, he has been blamed for what he has done in the past. Before the organizational review began, Wang Bin was deeply helpless and disappointed, when the arrival of a special person gave him great comfort and encouragement.

He was Chen Zhijian (Chen Geng's son), the deputy commander of the 40th Infantry Division of the 14th Group Army, and looking at Wang Bin, who was recovering but still looking poor, he told him firmly: "The reason why I came to visit you is because the organization believes in you, you don't have any ideological burden, take care of your injuries, and cooperate with the organization's review." ”

When he heard these words, Wang Bin's emotions were indescribable. He gave a military salute and said firmly: "Deputy division commander, I will definitely actively cooperate with the organization's review." ”

Chen Zhijian helped him lie on the bed and let him rest well, while he walked out of the door, recalling the bony body he had touched just now, and his heart was full of pain and helplessness.

The organization's review of Wang Bin lasted for more than a year, and it was finally determined that he did not have any act of defecting to the enemy. As a result, they issued a notice to restore Wang Bin's innocence, as well as his party membership, military status, and cadre positions.

In addition, taking into account his position and military age before he was captured, the organization deliberated and awarded him the rank of captain.

Wang Bin originally only wanted to prove his innocence and did not ask for anything else, but the organization censored him and awarded him a military rank. This unexpected honor moved Wang Bin to tears, and he vowed to dedicate his life to the construction of the motherland.

However, due to the torture he suffered in Vietnam, his body was no longer fit for work in the barracks. In 1993, with the consent of the organization, Wang Bin returned to his hometown of Zoucheng, Shandong Province, and saw his long-lost parents and fellow villagers again.

In his hometown, he worked in the power system, and he worked diligently and conscientiously. At home, he spent the rest of his life with his wife, running the family together. Now, Wang Bin is retired, and like all old people, his children and grandchildren surround him and enjoy family fun.

Although his life was ordinary and happy, his story is full of courage and perseverance, and he is an example for us to learn from.

During the Sino-Vietnamese War, although our country has always treated prisoners of war preferentially, the Vietnamese army did everything possible to treat our prisoners of war, despised them, and even insulted them unreasonably.

In fact, these captured soldiers are also heroes of our country, and we should all respect and cherish them regardless of whether there is a problem with the censorship. Wang Bin is a typical example of how he stood firm in his faith and did not give in in the face of six years of brutal torture by the Vietnamese army.

This kind of spirit of being brave and fearless, not afraid of hardship, and not afraid of death is what we often call the "Laoshan spirit". We should inherit this spirit and always remember these heroes who sacrificed for their country.
