Experts and business representatives from the Chinese science popularization community who attended the meeting conducted in-depth exchanges on how to make better use of the new science education for teenagers, establish a full-effect mechanism for social participation, and the future development of youth science education. Zhou Zhonghe, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the importance of popular science work in the era of knowledge is rising, and to build a good popular science ecology, it is necessary to cooperate with multiple subjects, give full play to their respective advantages, and jointly promote the development of popular science. Wu Xiangping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wang Yuping, former deputy director and researcher of the China Institute of Science Popularization, also gave keynote speeches on the opportunities and challenges faced by science education in the AI era, how to build a systematic system for the construction of teachers' scientific literacy, and strengthen the research on teachers' scientific literacy.
At the meeting, representatives from the education departments of Guizhou, Inner Mongolia and other countries, teachers and students shared the results and experience of the "Youth Science Literacy Improvement Program" public welfare project in local rural primary and secondary schools in the past five years, and pointed out that the project is of great significance for cultivating students' interest in science and cultivating their innovation ability and fighting spirit.
Since its launch in 2019, the project has covered 1,039 rural primary schools in 27 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country by donating science and technology books, supporting experimental packages, implementing science and technology curriculum training for principals and teachers, and carrying out online and offline science education activities, effectively helping more than 310,000 rural teenagers and more than 20,000 rural school teachers to improve their scientific and technological literacy.
In the past five years, the public welfare project of the "Youth Science and Technology Literacy Improvement Program" has adhered to the concept of "sending in and coming out", leading rural teenagers into science popularization venues and scientific research institutes, and actively cooperating with science and technology enterprises to carry out various forms of practical activities such as enterprise science popularization research, and has achieved fruitful results in improving the scientific and technological literacy of young people, helping to upgrade rural science and education hardware and services, and building multiple scenarios for science and education practice. Since 2019, the project has been in the form of live classes, and the series of "Scenario Master Live Classes" taught by academicians and experts has exceeded 1 on the whole network600 million person-times, so that young people can broaden their horizons without leaving home, and high-quality educational resources can go deep into rural areas; In order to realize the sharing of urban and rural education resources, from 2021 to 2023, the project will hold the "Science Education into Rural Schools" activity, which allows rural children to learn face-to-face with scientists at home through the method of "offline school + online live broadcast" for scientists, and allows rural teachers to communicate directly with front-line experts. In January 2022, the "Research Report on the Youth Science and Technology Literacy Improvement Plan" released by China Science Daily showed that the mastery of "scientific principles" among rural teenagers who participated in the project learning increased by 268% and the mastery of the "scientific method" improved by 101%, and the correct judgment of "scientific research" has increased by 65%, and the love of "science class" increased by 47%, and the proportion of "scientific application and practice" increased by 78%。In addition, the "Youth Science and Technology Literacy Improvement Program" will also launch a series of activities with the theme of "Science and Technology Burning Dreams Science and Technology Enterprise Open Day" in 2023, so that the majority of young people can enter science and technology enterprises, experience advanced technology face-to-face, and promote the development of youth science education.
