Apple will delay the launch of the MacBook Pro with an OLED screen as the company tries to meet the availability of PC brands, according to a new report from the chain. OLED screens have a higher contrast ratio and are thinner and consume less power than current displays because they don't require a backlight. It was previously reported that Apple will release a MacBook Pro with an OLED screen in 2024.
Reports revealed that Samsung Display will be the exclusive company, and rumors have delayed the release until 2025.
Now, new reports from South Korea's The Elec suggest that such a MacBook Pro is unlikely to be possible before 2027. The publication says the display will use Samsung's eighth-generation OLED technology, but it's not exclusive to Apple.
Samsung is said to be producing eight generations of OLED panels for customers such as Dell and HP at the same time, and there is no information yet on when these companies will release devices with such screens. Samsung's goal is to supply these PC companies first, and according to a May 2023 report, this may be due to Samsung's concern about declining Mac sales.
Samsung's factory is expected to be operational in the second half of 2024. Choi Joo-sun, president of Samsung Display, said"From 2026 onwards, we will produce 10 million pieces of IT OLED per year here"。
