With the launch of the "Spring Warm Farmers" service action in 2024, measures have been taken to let migrant workers spend a good year with peace of mind. The reporter conducted interviews in Shandong, Henan, Guizhou, Jiangxi and other places, and found that the migrant workers felt the strong atmosphere of the New Year in a series of warm activities.
In the "Warm Welcoming the New Year for Migrant Workers" activity held by the Construction Project Department of the Medical and Health Care Comprehensive Service Base of China Construction Third Bureau in Jinan City, Shandong Province, the workers had the opportunity to experience traditional cultural activities such as paper-cutting and shadow puppetry, and tasted delicious New Year's goods. Such activities allowed the migrant workers to feel a different kind of New Year's flavor in advance and recalled the lively scene of the New Year in their hometown. Li Kejun, a construction worker, said that he has been working outside for a year and rarely has the opportunity to experience the fun of traditional culture, but this participation in the event made him feel warm and happy.
In Huimin Village, Hedong Korean Township, Shangzhi City, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, migrant worker Zhao Chunfu went to work as a coach at the Wulongshan Ski Resort in Huixian City, Henan Province in winter, and returned to his hometown to farm after the snow season ended. Zhao Chunfu said that he has been working in the ski resort for 10 years, and he will be the busiest during the Spring Festival every year, so he has not had the opportunity to go home for the New Year in the past 10 years. However, he also felt the warm atmosphere of the New Year at the ski resort, where everyone would make dumplings together and the boss would give out red envelopes, which had become a fixed custom for everyone.
Zhang Xianqiong from Zheng'an County, Guizhou Province, changed careers to work as a housekeeper after working in Guangdong for many years, and has not returned home for the Chinese New Year for 4 years. But this year, she took the homecoming train back home to reunite with her family. Zhang Xianqiong said with emotion that she didn't expect that the league organization in her hometown would charter a special train to take her home for the New Year, which was too warm for people who worked outside. She decided to work harder and live a better life.
In addition to holding warm activities to make migrant workers feel the warm atmosphere of the New Year, various localities also provide convenient travel services to ensure that migrant workers go home smoothly for the New Year.
Many places have organized and carried out "point-to-point" chartered buses and special train services to meet the travel needs of migrant workers. For example, the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, and the Guangzhou Bureau of China Railway Group jointly launched the free Spring Festival through train activity. The event attracted 7,707 people to sign up, and the entrance reached more than 350,000 visits. Such through-train activities provide a convenient mode of transportation for returning migrant workers, making it easier for them to return to their hometowns.
In Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, Xi County has set up the Huiyu Public Welfare Service Center to help migrant workers in Xi County find employment. The service center has established cooperative relations with many enterprises in Huizhou, and after the Spring Festival every year is their busiest time, meeting a large number of labor needs. Through this kind of help, migrant workers can return to their hometowns more conveniently, find suitable jobs, and spend a happy Spring Festival.
In addition to providing convenient travel services, various localities have also stepped up efforts to strengthen employment services for migrant workers and provide them with more employment opportunities.
Weining County is located in the Wumeng Mountains of Guizhou Province and is a large labor export county. Every year around the Spring Festival, Weining County organizes employment assistance activities to provide more jobs for migrant workers at home or returning to their hometowns. Recently, at the job fair held in Chaoyang New Town, Weining County, more than 100 companies provided about 1,000 jobs, attracting a large number of job seekers to apply. Li Wenguo, a migrant worker who came to participate in the job fair, said that this year he wanted to find a job close to home and suitable for himself, so he came to the job fair.
At the farmers' market in Maodian Town, Ganxian District, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, the Maodian Employment Home organized a job fair for returning migrant workers. The event attracted 8 companies to provide more than 100 general workers, clerks and other positions. Liu Jianwen, a staff member of the Maodian Employment Home, said that many migrant workers who have returned to their hometowns have come to consult recently, and most of them are older and not highly educated, so the Employment Home specially held a job fair at the farmers' market to help migrant workers find suitable jobs. At the job fair, about 40 migrant workers reached employment intentions, and 15 signed labor contracts on the spot.
By organizing job fairs and connecting with enterprises, various localities strive to provide more employment opportunities for migrant workers, so that they can smoothly find suitable jobs during the peak period of job hunting.
The end of the year and the beginning of the year are not only the peak period for migrant workers to return to their hometowns, but also the period when disputes over migrant workers' arrears of wages are prone to occur. In order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of migrant workers, some localities have strengthened rights protection services.
The Legal Aid Center of Shanghe County, Jinan City, Shandong Province, organized township judicial offices and legal aid lawyers to carry out activities such as sending legal aid to the countryside to catch up with large gatherings. The staff focused on explaining the green channel for legal aid for migrant workers and the priority acceptance, review and assignment of migrant workers' cases of recourse to labor remuneration, and answered legal questions related to migrant workers' wage claims and rights protection. Such activities provide a platform for migrant workers to consult and solve problems, so that they can better understand their rights and interests, and feel grounded and at ease.
The Department of Migrant Workers of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security also said that it will strengthen the protection of the rights and interests of migrant workers and their care and care through services such as employment, training and travel for migrant workers before and after the Spring Festival, so that the majority of migrant workers can spend a happy and peaceful festival. This shows that all departments will continue to work hard to provide better services and guarantees for migrant workers to ensure that they can have a good year with peace of mind.
