The waiters in the Great Hall of the People are changed every four years, and they are not from Beijing, and the leaders say that they are in pain
The Great Hall of the People is the core place of national political activities and an important place for leaders to carry out domestic and diplomatic activities. In order to meet the needs of the 10,000-person auditorium, the service team of the City Hall is huge, rotating every four years, and the waiters are carefully selected from all over the country, but interestingly, there is not a single person from Beijing in this service team.
According to the leadership of the bureau, this decision was made out of overall considerations. So, what is the real reason behind this? The year 1956 was an important year in the history of our country, in which China's socialist transformation had won a decisive victory, the first five-year plan had been completed ahead of schedule, the people's living standards had been markedly improved, and profound changes had taken place in their mental outlook.
In order to better meet the needs of the country's political life and meet the needs of the people, in 1958, the enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China in Beidaihe came with good news and decided to build a large hall of 10,000 people in front of Tiananmen Square to better serve the country and the people.
At the beginning of the design, we first focused on three core issues: first, how to solve the parking problem of the 10,000-person auditorium; the second is to determine what are the main functions of the General Assembly Hall; The third is what kind of architectural form is the most appropriate.
In this process, it is clearly required to complete the construction of ten major public buildings, including the Great Hall of the People, before the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. To this end, the Beijing Municipal Party Committee specially invited experts from all over the world to participate in the design work.
On September 10, architectural experts from all over the country gathered in Beijing to immediately devote themselves to the design of the Great Hall of the People. However, since we had never designed a building of this magnitude and challenge before, when Minister of Culture Qian Junrui reviewed the third draft of the drawings, he felt that the design needed to be further liberated and redesigned.
After learning of this situation, ** instructed the National Day engineering design team to invite young people to participate in the design.
Although they may not yet be experts in business, they are open-minded and dare to challenge conventions, a spirit that may inspire innovative architectural design.
So, after listening to a wide range of opinions and different proposals, they successfully designed 84 floor plans and 189 three-dimensional plans. The experts then created a new integrated programme based on the combination of eight integrated programmes across the country.
On October 14, ** hurried back to Beijing from other places to review the design plan of the City Hall. After careful review, a final decision was made and the scheme was approved.
Construction of the General Assembly Hall began immediately after the plan was finalized. Since there were still a number of houses and flats in the area where the General Assembly Hall was built, the demolition and relocation work was completed before October 10, 1958, in order to complete the resettlement work as soon as possible.
On October 28, the City Hall officially entered the construction stage, with thousands of empty alleys and the construction site in full swing. During the construction process, they encountered many challenges. In order to complete such a large-scale project in a short period of time and solve the problem, the only way to do this is to prepare materials while designing.
However, during construction, the situation was always changing, and the construction company had to seek close cooperation with the designers. In the process of drawing and construction, construction workers in Beijing and other places also put forward various suggestions for improvement.
Faced with this situation, Shen Bo and Liang Sicheng decided to invite professional construction workers to participate in the discussion. On December 6, at a discussion meeting, it was felt that the central part of the architectural design was not prominent enough, that there were too many colonnades, that the interior of the auditorium was too high, and that although the building was not small, the usable area was not large.
Liang Sicheng also put forward his own opinion: "The overall building is not tall and grand enough, and the scale is not well proportioned, which makes people feel like a villain enlarged." ”
At the second discussion, Liang Sicheng bluntly pointed out that although the new design is an improvement over the original plan, it is still not up to the ideal state. During the discussion, everyone reached a consensus and decided to set up a small auditorium with a capacity of 100 people in the empty part of the front of the ** hall on the upper floor, which is used for theatrical performances and film screenings.
At the same time, eight large conference rooms were added on both sides of the auditorium, and the two empty corridors and columns in the south and south of the southwest were eliminated. The General Assembly Hall is large and complex, and the safety of the current structure is a primary consideration.
In order to ensure the safety of construction, ** personally went to the construction site for a site visit.
In the interior design of the Great Hall of Ten Thousand People, the concept of "water and sky are one color" was proposed. He elaborated on his design concept, creating the junction between the wall and the ceiling to create a "water and sky" effect, while retaining the sunflower pattern in the center of the ceiling.
The time frame for the construction of the City Hall was tight and required a large amount of stone in a short period of time, but the stone was troubling. At this difficult moment, someone sent a stone sample, Zhao Pengfei was ecstatic, regardless of the cold weather, he personally went to the mountains to quarry.
However, he found that the stone was not suitable for a large structure such as the General Assembly Hall. During the construction process, various problems followed, but fortunately, on September 9, 1959, ** visited the construction site of the Great Hall and named it "Great Hall of the People", which gave the building a deeper meaning.
In just ten months, our construction heroes have created an amazing architectural marvel on the Great Hall of the People. When the construction of the General Assembly Hall was completed, the construction force immediately moved on to the next construction project.
The Great Hall of the People, as a place for political activities of the Communist Party of China and the state and a place for people across the country to discuss national affairs, had limited opening hours, but in 1978, the opening of the Great Hall of the People was finally put on the agenda.
At one time, the Great Hall of the People was a mysterious and sacred temple in the hearts of the Chinese people. In the square outside the east gate of the General Assembly Hall, there is an iron railing, and the guard line extends to the curb on the west side of the square, and only a very small number of people can enter through the inspection, and the ordinary people can only look at it.
However, at the Third Plenum of the 11th Central Committee in 1978, this situation changed. At the meeting, a senior leader proposed that as the most important place for the political activities of the party and the state, the Great Hall of the People occupies an extremely important position in the hearts of the whole party and the people of the whole country, but in order to bring the party and the people closer together, the Great Hall of the People should be open to all sectors of society when there are no major events.
The proposal was quickly adopted by the entire staff and was immediately implemented. Since then, the door of the Great Hall of the People has been open to the broad masses of the people and has become a bridge connecting the party and the people.
On the evening of January 27, 1979, the people in the Great Hall of the People celebrated the Spring Festival Gala, and the leaders and Deng Yingchao appeared one after another, she said: "In the past, the Great Hall of the People was only open to specific people, but now, it has returned to the arms of the people and will be open to the whole society." ”
This sentence deeply touched everyone present, who applauded and cheered in front of the TV. On 10 March of the following year, the iron railings outside the east gate of the General Assembly Hall were completely removed, signaling that the people would become the true masters of the General Assembly Hall.
On July 5 of the same year, the 10,000-person auditorium and part of the hall were officially opened to the public, and everyone could go in to visit, tour and take pictures.
At the same time, the opening of the Great Hall of the People has won praise from international friends. Every day, there is an endless stream of ** to visit, and the crowd queuing up in the square is like a long queue, stretching endlessly.
According to statistics, this year, the Great Hall of the People received more than 110 million domestic guests, including 101 overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots50,000 person-times, 47 foreign guests70,000 people.
While embracing the people, the Great Hall of the People has also begun to go out into society, and visitors can even dine on the spot. In 1984, the Great Hall of the People was officially under the jurisdiction of the General Office of the Communist Party of China, and it will begin to implement partial enterprise management as a state administrative organ.
On the premise of ensuring the smooth progress of the political activities of the party and the state, the Great Hall put forward the goal of struggle: to reduce the state administrative appropriation year by year, and strive to achieve self-sufficiency in administrative funds within five years, so as to reduce the burden on the state.
The Great Hall of the People was open to welcome international friends, and there was an endless stream of domestic guests, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots and foreign guests. In order to reduce the burden on the State, the General Assembly Hall has set a goal of achieving self-sufficiency in administrative costs within five years.
At the same time, visitors can also dine in the City Hall and enjoy convenient services during their visit.
The Great Hall of the People is not only a place to visit, but also provides a fast food service and can also be rented, so it brings in a good income and is self-sustaining.
In 1991, the total revenue of the Great Hall of the People reached 200 million yuan. On this basis, the Great Hall of the People has also created its own economic entity, the Great Hall of the People Comprehensive Service Development Center.
So, what exactly does this center mean? To put it simply, the Great Hall of the People has a team of hundreds of top chefs who are well-versed in the authentic cooking techniques of the eight major cuisines.
In the past, the Great Hall used to work during banquets and study at the end of banquets. Today, we are working hard to promote the separation of government and business, and make full use of the advantages of talent to set up training courses, and the special chefs will take turns to train personnel.
This will bring significant economic benefits to the company. On the basis of the economic entity of the General Hall, the service company developed rapidly and opened a wonderful era. In June 1991, the service company took over Beijing Jianlibao Restaurant and achieved profitability in only two months.
At the end of the same year, the service company cooperated with Guangdong Jianlibao and invested 10 million yuan in Beijing Huairou to establish Jianlibao Beijing Associate. Subsequently, we also established Sino-foreign joint ventures.
In anticipation of the people, the General Assembly Hall really went out into society and began to create an economy.
The service in the Great Hall of the People is not all Beijingers, but excellent service personnel from all over the country. The General Assembly Hall's service team has more than 300 members, rotates every four years, and the selection criteria are very high.
They need to have a good image and quality, and the height of boys should generally be 175 to 180, the height of girls should be 165 to 1Within 70, the facial features should be correct, the quality should be good, and the ideology should also be unified.
Therefore, it is very difficult to select suitable personnel among the thousands of people, and it usually takes three or four hundred interviews to pick out two or three. Therefore, it can be said that the waiters in the City Hall are no less than beauty pageants, and some people even say that walking around the City Hall is equivalent to watching a national beauty pageant.
The strict standards made the selected waiters feel honored. A waitress from Sichuan who has been working here for four years recalls giving up the opportunity to take the college entrance examination and deciding to work at the Great Hall of the People.
Although the chances of admission were slim, only five lucky winners were selected for her team, including herself. These attendants, who come from all over the country, generally provide services in their respective provincial offices.
However, they never met a single Beijinger until the leader told them: We don't recruit Beijingers. What is the reason behind this?
This decision is not aimed at a specific region, but is aimed at stabilizing the morale of the military. At that time, if Beijingers were employed, their emotions might have been affected when they went home for reunion during the festive season.
In addition, the issue of confidentiality is also a reason to consider. Beijingers are close to home, and they may inadvertently leak *** and bring heavy losses to the country. Therefore, after discussion, the leaders decided not to hire Beijingers.
Due to the complex social environment at that time, the importance of confidentiality was self-evident, and this decision was a helpless move. Over time, the Great Hall of the People has become a nationally renowned attraction, and every visitor to Beijing will walk into this sacred building with reverence and feel the painstaking efforts of the older generation of revolutionaries.
Of course, it may seem glorious to be a waiter in the General Hall, but the area of the General Assembly Hall is 170,000 square meters, and it takes an hour to walk around, so they need to stand and walk for long hours every day.
In the Great Hall, meetings and banquets of all sizes are staged in turn, and cold drinks for 500, 4,000 or even 10,000 people are common. Due to the uncertainty of the number of people and the format of the event, the General Assembly Hall needs to be carefully set up before each event, with more than 5,000 chairs and more than 1,000 tables moving.
In addition to these daily tasks, the requirements for the service attitude of the City Hall are also very high, even exceeding the standards of five-star hotels, and their service standard is "foolproof".
For decades, the staff has worked hard day in and day out, and they have always done it"Foolproof"ideas. In the case of the reporter who asked the waiter for the location of the bathroom, the waiter would immediately stop what he was doing, smile and give instructions with an elegant gesture.
Although these actions may seem simple, behind them are their passionate, friendly, meticulous and thoughtful dedication to their work. They even need to have the skills to read words and emotions in order to better serve their customers.
During the two sessions, there is an emergency response team at the interface of each carpet, ready to respond to various emergencies at any time. Whether they are young delegates or elderly people, every time they walk, they will be warmly cared for and actively supported by the waiters.
The staff of the Great Hall, with their youthful dedication, received batch after batch of people's deputies, witnessing every step of China's march towards prosperity and strength.
