In 129 BC, the Xiongnu invaded Shanggu County and killed and plundered the people. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty Liu Che appointed Wei Qing as the general of the chariot cavalry to lead 10,000 cavalry and go straight out of the upper valley to fight against the Xiongnu. After defeating the enemy who invaded Shanggu, the fledgling Wei Qing led his army deep into the territory of the Xiongnu until Longcheng, where he captured more than 700 Xiongnu and returned triumphantly. Wei Qing made great achievements in his first career, and Liu Che was extremely happy and gave Wei Qing the title of Marquis of Guan Nei as a reward.

After the First Battle of Longcheng, in 128 BC, the Xiongnu invaded again, Wei Qing was ordered to go on an expedition and led 30,000 soldiers to Yanmen to meet the Xiongnu; General Li Xi went out of Dai County and attacked the back road of the Xiongnu, and coordinated with Wei Qing all the way. After Wei Qing led his army to Yanmen, he fought a fierce battle with the invading Xiongnu, and the Xiongnu were defeated, leaving thousands of corpses and fleeing in embarrassment. Wei Qing's second attack was completely victorious, showing outstanding military talent and prestige.

In 127 BC, Liu Che was not moved by the Xiongnu's attack on the eastern front, and adopted the operational policy of the Xiongnu attacking the east and the Han army advancing westward, and decisively launched the famous Henan Campaign. It can be said that this was the first victory in a strategic decisive battle since the Han launched the war against the Xiongnu. Liu Che ordered Wei Qing to go on a third expedition, commanding tens of thousands of troops to advance rapidly northwest along the north bank of the Yellow River from Yunzhong (northeast of present-day Inner Mongolia Tuoketuo), and captured Gaoque (Saiming, located northeast of present-day Jinhanghou Banner in Inner Mongolia) in one fell swoop, cutting off the connection between the Aries King and the Loufu King stationed in Henan and the royal court of Shan Yu. Then, Wei Qing immediately led his troops south, drove directly along the Yellow River to Longxi (now Lintao, Gansu), and completed the encirclement of King Aries and King Loufu. By the time the Aries King and the Lou Fu King realized that they were under siege, the defense line in Henan had completely collapsed, so they had to lead the remnants to cross the Yellow River west and flee in panic. In this battle, the Han army annihilated thousands of enemies, intercepted more than 100,000 head of livestock, and recovered all of Henan, achieving a major victory. Wei Qing's command of this campaign changed the Han army's previous combat mode of ambushing, blocking, and reinforcement, and adopted that the entire campaign was completed in the process of long-distance running and outflanking movements, and when the Xiongnu realized the Han army's combat intentions, they had already fallen into the heavy encirclement of the Han army, and the overall situation of defeat had been decided. Wei Qing was also named Marquis of Changping because of his meritorious service in seizing Henan. Since then, Wei Qing has repeatedly attacked the Huns, and he has been invincible and famous all over the world.
