Tianjin, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- As the Spring Festival approached, Cheng Weidong did not buy New Year's goods, nor did he bother to hang lanterns in his studio. He has been running to the dock for the past few days, paying attention to the "every move" of the newly operated "smart zero-carbon" terminal management and control system.

Tianjin Port's new-generation intelligent container terminal management and control system was officially put into use in January this year. As an industrial worker, Cheng Weidong is also involved.

Cheng Weidong, who entered Tianjin Port as a worker at the age of 19, never imagined that he could participate in such high-tech work in his 40s. "You have to pay attention everywhere and walk steadily. Cheng Weidong, who was dressed in blue overalls and of medium stature, said with a smile.

Tianjin Port has a large number of goods in and out every day, and many of these goods pass through the hands of Cheng Weidong and other trailer drivers.

In 1998, after graduating from school, Cheng Weidong came to Tianjin Port and ushered in his first identity: a trailer driver. At that time, almost all large and small cargo in Tianjin Port relied on trailers to transfer between the freighter and the port area. Cheng Weidong carried a bag with him, put a few reference books, and turned a few pages whenever he had time, learning the construction and application of mechanical equipment such as trailers at any time.

In the past, all kinds of goods, vehicles, and people were densely populated in the port area, and the road conditions were complicated. The trailer is 20 meters long, and the driver's vision is limited when turning and reversing.

In order to get familiar with the trailer as soon as possible, Cheng Weidong once took the initiative to invite Ying to the team's maintenance team for exercise, and he drilled up and down the trailer, often getting oil all over his body, and working overtime was commonplace.

Cheng Weidong, who loves to think, studied "dataization" more than ten years ago. He decomposed a cycle of trailer operation into more than 40 action elements, which required several gears, a few brakes, a few heads, etc., and studied one element by one, gradually forming a "database" in the brain.

Trailer driving reversing frequency is high and the operation is difficult. In order to reverse better, he plans to switch to his left foot after driving on his right foot for many years. His teammates advised him that a rash change of foot might increase the risk of driving, "This is equivalent to emptying the experience and learning from scratch!" ”

However, the advantages of driving on the left foot with a large trailer are obvious. "The head rotation angle can be increased from the original maximum of 180 degrees to about 270 degrees, and the field of view is wider. Cheng Weidong trained for half a year and forced himself to become a "left-hander".

Through continuous exploration, Cheng Weidong "played with flowers" of boring trailer work, summed up the "fast", "accurate" and "stable" working methods, and improved operation efficiency167%, he also became the youngest senior technician in Tianjin Port and the "trailer king" in everyone's mouth.

With his exquisite craftsmanship, in 2022, after 24 years of work, Cheng Weidong will usher in his second identity: the "Great Country Craftsman of the Year" issued by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

It was also during this period that Tianjin Port accelerated its transformation to a smart port. In 2021, the world's first "smart zero-carbon" terminal was put into operation at Tianjin Port. In the wharf, the old trailers are replaced by intelligent horizontal transport robots that run smoothly.

Relying on 5G, satellite and other technologies, the intelligent horizontal transportation robot can automatically achieve centimeter-level accurate positioning, but in the first few years of employment, a master is also needed to "help the horse and send it for a ride".

How can we optimize the turning paths of these robots? How can I make my equipment run more efficiently? Before the intelligent horizontal transportation robot was put into use, Cheng Weidong had another identity: AI master.

Cheng Weidong provided the "big data" accumulated in his mind for more than 20 years to the programmers, who translated and programmed them into the program and wrote instructions. Through repeated tests combined with field scenes, Cheng Weidong continued to train the driving skills of this new batch of "apprentices".

Today, the intelligent container terminal management and control system that overcomes 16 industry problems far exceeds the management difficulty of intelligent horizontal transportation robots. "As an industrial worker in the new era, we must ride the wind and waves in the tide of the times and constantly hone new skills. Cheng Weidong lifted his glasses, his eyes were firm.
