Baghdad, 8 Feb (Xinhua) -- Yahya Rasul, spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, said in a statement on 8 February that the US-led international coalition has become a factor leading to instability in Iraq.

Rasul said that the reckless assassination of the US military in residential areas of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, will further push Iraq to end the presence of the international coalition in Iraq.

Tahsin Haifaji, spokesman for the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, also issued a statement on the same day, saying that the United States and the international coalition forces were responsible for the consequences of these dangerous actions. The attacks posed a threat to Iraq's security and undermined the ongoing negotiations between Iraq and the international coalition.

On the night of the 7th, a car was attacked by drones in eastern Baghdad, killing three people, including a commander of the Iraqi Shiite armed "Allah Brigade". The U.S. command announced the attack, saying that the commander of the "Allah Brigades" directly planned and participated in the attack on the U.S. military.

On the evening of January 27, Eastern time, a drone attack on a U.S. military base in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border killed three U.S. soldiers and injured more than 40. The U.S. side believes that the armed groups under the Iranian-backed Islamic Resistance Movement in Iraq have launched attacks against U.S. troops.

The United States launched the Iraq War in 2003 and withdrew its troops from Iraq at the end of 2011, leaving only a small number of troops stationed. The extremist group Islamic State seized large swathes of western and northern Iraq in 2014, and the U.S.-led international coalition against the Islamic State subsequently increased its presence in Iraq. In January 2022, the Iraqi side issued a statement saying that the international coalition's combat mission had ended, the Iraqi military had taken over all military bases, and some foreign military personnel engaged in advisory work remained in Iraq to continue to provide support to the Iraqi security forces. On January 27 this year, the Iranian side issued a statement saying that Iran and the United States launched the first round of dialogue on the same day to discuss ending the existence of the League of Nations in Iraq.
