The tragedy of a Chinese female tourist drowning in Thailand has happened again. According to Thailand**, on January 27, a 46-year-old Chinese woman, Lu, accidentally drowned while swimming in the waters of Koh Samet, and after emergency treatment by local villagers and medical personnel, her life could not be saved. This tragedy is yet another reminder of water safety when traveling abroad.

Lu went to Samet Island in Thailand for a vacation with his family. At that time, she accidentally drowned while swimming in the nearby waters, but fortunately, the local villagers discovered her accident and immediately launched cardiopulmonary resuscitation first aid measures, and medical personnel quickly rushed to the scene for treatment. However, despite all the efforts to treat him, Lu unfortunately passed away in the end. Her body was taken to a local hospital for an autopsy to further investigate what led to her drowning. The local ** said that it would do its best to facilitate and assist in dealing with Lu's funeral, and had notified the Chinese Embassy in Thailand to provide relevant assistance.

In recent years, there have been a number of incidents of Chinese tourists drowning while traveling. For example, on January 5, 2024, a 31-year-old male Chinese tourist was snorkeling in the waters of Similan Islands National Park in Phang Nga Province when he accidentally drowned and died. In addition, in November 2017, a 52-year-old Chinese female tourist died after accidentally tearing off her oxygen glass helmet while participating in a seawalking program on Koh Larn in Pattaya, Thailand. All of these incidents are poignant, and they highlight the safety of Thailand's tourism wading projects.

In response to this series of tragedies, the Chinese embassy and consulates in Thailand also issued a reminder on January 24 this year, calling on the majority of compatriots who come to Thailand to pay attention to wading safety. This includes that when experiencing the snorkeling program, be sure to wear a life jacket in strict accordance with the guidance of the staff, be familiar with the use of relevant equipment and emergency measures, and try to go into the water together and take care of each other. At the same time, before going into the sea to swim, it is necessary to pay close attention to the weather and hydrological conditions at sea, and avoid going into the water in the case of high winds and waves. In addition, the beaches of Thailand's official tourist attractions are equipped with lifeguards, and if there are signs of drowning in the accompanying person, they should seek help as soon as possible so as not to miss the best time to rescue.

This series of drowning incidents has attracted widespread attention and thinking. Tourism is an activity for people to relax and seek joy, but safety has always been a part of tourism. Especially in water-related projects, the safety risks of tourists are more prominent. Therefore, whether it is the tourists themselves, or the tour operators, the first department, should work together to strengthen the safety management and supervision of water-related tourism projects, and improve the safety awareness of tourists. Travel can only be made more enjoyable and beautiful if safety is ensured.

In short, the tragedy of a Chinese female tourist drowning in Thailand once again reminds us that we must take safety precautions during travel, especially when it comes to water activities. Tourism should be a good memory, not a sad one. It is hoped that the relevant departments can increase the supervision of tourism safety and provide a safer tourism environment for tourists, and also call on tourists to enhance their own safety awareness and ensure the safety of themselves and their families during the journey.
