The three major battles refer to the strategic decisive battles fought between the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Kuomintang army from September 12, 1948 to January 31, 1949, including the Liaoshen Campaign, the Huaihai Campaign, and the Pingjin Campaign.

The Liaoshen Campaign was one of the "three major battles" in the Liberation War in modern Chinese history, which began on September 12, 1948 and ended on November 2 of the same year, lasting 52 days.

The Chinese Communist Party called it the Liaoshen Campaign, and the Chinese Kuomintang called it the Liaoxi Battle, also known as the "Liaoshen Battle".

The Huaihai Campaign was a large-scale strategic offensive campaign against the Kuomintang army carried out by the Central Plains Field Army, the East China Field Army, as well as other military region troops and local armed forces during the Liberation War, in a vast area centered on Xuzhou from November 6, 1948 to January 10 of the following year. The Huaihai Campaign, also known as the Battle of Xu Beng or the Battle of Xu Beng on the Kuomintang side.

The Pingjin Campaign was a strategic decisive battle during the Liberation War, in which the Northeast Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the troops of the North China Military Region kept the Kuomintang army Fu Zuoyi clique in the Beiping, Tianjin, and Zhangjiakou areas and annihilated each of them.

The Liaoshen Campaign took over Northeast China, the Huaihai Campaign took East China, except for Shanghai, and the Pingjin Campaign took over Huabei, preserving Beijing, that is, Beiping at that time, and preparing for the establishment of New China and the capital.
